A police sergeant has been arrested for scratching parked cars in Kazo, Saitama Prefecture.
According to prefectural police, the officer, who has been named as Tetsuo Taguchi, 54, is accused of scratching several parked cars with a coin in a car park on Sunday night. He was identified from surveillance camera footage.
During police questioning, Taguchi was quoted as saying, "I was angry because I was having trouble at home. I was drunk and I scratched a few cars."

This behaviour from a 54 year old and a policeman.

The police should follow the example of the US Navy in Japan and ban all drinking after 10pm. Give them a curfew too, then crime will be reduced by the looks of things

Instead of venting it out on other people, he should have scratched his own car ... but then it would lead to more problems at home.

JPolice...no end to their stupidity....what happened to their campaign to earn back the trust of the public? Looks like an utter failure to me.
YuriOtani
Maybe they can go through rehab tougher. US Military, J Police, Japanese lawmakers, lawyers, etc.

The power of an sergeant and the self control of a teenager!!!! Now just take this gun and go protect and serve!!!!LOL

He'll just get a slap on the wrist, told how naughty he was, bow before his boss, and all is good, right? Outstanding.

Maybe using a coin was his unconscious way of saying that he was having money problems at home.

Ah, the keystones at it again! I say they should impose a no-drinking law on police, and add a curfew to boot! All those not on duty must stay at home and cannot drink, or else they have to leave Japan.

What a fool. I'll bet this won't get a hundred or more comments. Most likely off by Friday.

54 years old, still only a sergeant, and living in Saitama. No wonder he got drunk.
Doesn't make it OK to damage other folks' property, though.
Book. Throw,

I suppose it's better than taking upskirt photos of HS girls, groping, committing assault, or killing yourself. It seems the keystones are getting better...slowly.

Ha! Crazy cop in Saitama. Two of the standard events join together...

Again, labeling a group of people for the actions of a few individuals.
When entrusted with a postition of power like that they should be held accountable and made an example of. People make mistakes and hopefully he will learn from his.

My friend back in high school was a hard-core patriot when it came to American cars and I'm ashamed to say I once saw him take a coin out of his pocket and scratch a few Japanese cars out of, well, stupidity basically but as far as he saw it, angst against foreign cars taking sales and jobs from Americans. I wonder how he'd react to watching a story about a Japanese man who scratched up a bunch of (likely) Japanese cars...

Dimwit. How scratching a car solve problems at home (or, Combini, the loss of overpaid US jobs to Japanese workers) escapes me. Like punching the wall out fo frustration - ridiculous. and a cop.

Easy to scratch, and cheap relief to be gained from imagining the anger of others.
Guess how much time and effort and money will have to go into respraying these cars back to perfect again. Mr Taguchi, how much will you be paying from your salary, I wonder?

???? Is there a reason for this comment?

The man might just be going through hell at home.

Serrano: "The man might just be going through hell at home."
Send the repair bill to his wife then.

The only time I had a scratched car was when some idiot did it with the tip of an umbrella. I called the police and they could see the person on the security cam, but no luck in to identifying him. The damage went way over 100.000 yen.

Agreed.
Plus, if he was smarter he would have used a key.

where is the outrage of the japanese people?
Konsta
Outrage towards what? Scratching a few cars with coin? There is no need for Japanese public to behave ridiculously. The same goes with the curfew for scratching.
BoredToTears
If he was going to scratch cars, why in a parking lot? Go scratch the cars that punks parked on the side of the street. Ha!
sillygirl
i want to see a no drinking policy and curfews!!!! i am outraged the supposed protectors are rabble rousers, molesters, thiefs and goldbrickers.
Vance Chisu H
I guess he didn't scratch up any yakuza cars or there might have been, or will be, real justice.
sillygirl
@Fadamor - and that is just too bad.

And yet another fine act of police being professional . I think the number of drunken or illegal acts out numbers that of the military personnel this year doesn't it ??? Anyone have the stats on that ??
Tom Webb
Another fine example for the JP youngsters to follow. No wonder the country is going into the toilet.

More of a skeleton in the cupboard of cupboards of skeletons...a drunken vandal of an officer complaining about torture at home... Wow! To have preferred a cell at some precinct to his home is quite telling!!!

C'mon - at least he didn't grope anyone or take upskirt pics. Maybe the behaviour of Japanese police is finally improving?
bajhista65
Fine.... removed him from the service with no pensions and benifit from retirement. A MENACE to the force and Japan society. Waiting for follow ups from this report JT Editor?
