Chiba prefectural police said Saturday they have arrested a 36-year-old man over the abduction of a junior high schoolgirl.
According to police, the man, who has been named as Yoshifumi Kadokami, was returning home from a surfing trip on Aug 14 when he stopped at a convenience store in Togane and struck up a conversation with the girl, Fuji TV reported. He is then accused of driving her to his apartment in Hachioji. The girl's older sister filed a missing person's report with police that evening, after the girl failed to return home from school.
On the evening of Aug 15, around 24 hours after being reported missing, the girl called a friend on her cell phone and asked for help, following which Kadokami was arrested on a charge of abduction. During police questioning, Kadokami was quoted as saying, "I took her to my place, but it wasn't a kidnapping."© Japan Today
