Schoolgirl calls friend for help after being abducted by 36-year-old man

Chiba prefectural police said Saturday they have arrested a 36-year-old man over the abduction of a junior high schoolgirl.

According to police, the man, who has been named as Yoshifumi Kadokami, was returning home from a surfing trip on Aug 14 when he stopped at a convenience store in Togane and struck up a conversation with the girl, Fuji TV reported. He is then accused of driving her to his apartment in Hachioji. The girl's older sister filed a missing person's report with police that evening, after the girl failed to return home from school.

On the evening of Aug 15, around 24 hours after being reported missing, the girl called a friend on her cell phone and asked for help, following which Kadokami was arrested on a charge of abduction. During police questioning, Kadokami was quoted as saying, "I took her to my place, but it wasn't a kidnapping."

moomoochooAUG. 20, 2013 - 07:14AM JST It's hard to comment without knowing all the details, but if the girl went of her own volition she needs to know that she must be responsible for her own decisions.

Coddling her with "it's not your fault" is irresponsible.

EXACTLY! He should get statutory rape (if anything happened), and she should learn a lesson about EITHER being an idiot, or being a wh*re.

Oh wait! No! She honestly thought he was taking her back to his place to see his Hello Kitty collection.....

Sue Jones,

The parents were playing Pachiko! (smile).

The article does not provide any facts to make sensible comments on. Fantasizing anyone is capable of.

Exactly what I was thinking AKBfan. Must've been a deal gone wrong.

This is weird

willing wasn't a kidnap ! ....

2 ( +3 / -1 )

He let her keep her phone andn it took her 24 hours to make a call? sounds strange.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Certainly more to this story............she had her cell phone......did anyone try to call her phone when she didn't return home????? Could be a case of if you don't pay me more than that i'm gonna cry foul.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

All other things being equal, if he was a junior high boy with a scooter who took her back to his house while his parents were out of town, would the charge of kidnapping still stick? If not, drop it.

See, its just that I don't hear one single detail here that explains why its a kidnapping. It does not say she was grabbed. It does not say she was tied up. Or locked in a room. Or threatened. Or beaten. No ransom was demanded. She retained her cell phone. I don't see a single thing here to make me think "kidnapping" except the accusation of "kidnapping". Is that all it takes now? One accusation and you are guilty in the court of public opinion?

So like everyone else, I am looking for an explanation. I guess that makes me a misgynist too, Triumvere? No, I don't see where misogyny comes into play, unless doubting the story of a female is instant misogyny. I think most of us have also doubted stories told by men. I know I have. Both genders lie to cover their own butts.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

would it be kidnapping if she consented to go?

5 ( +6 / -1 )

I'm not sure which is more appalling, the incident itself or the sheer vehemence of the misogyny on display in this thread.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

Ya, not enough info here to have a clue as to what happened.

As to the age thing that everyone is so sensitive about, jhs and hs girls spend a lot of time to look pretty and to look like an adult, and PLENTY of j girls in their 20s look like jailbait. So I can't guess if he is targetting kids or not.

Broad daylight in a very public space- including cameras- for the pickup, not convincing that this was a violent abduction, though possible. So if not violent, did he lie to her to give her a ride? or consensual? If he lied, how did he get her into the apt from the car when she figured out he wasn't taking her home?

She calls on her keitai 24 hrs later for help- like, he is either the dumbest kidnapper ever to not figure out he should take away the keitai and/ or tie her up, or this was consensual.

"don't blame the victim" commenters, like, ok, but is she a victim, and of what exactly?

Will we have a follow-up story?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Way too many holes in this story.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

When it comes to 'fault', there are two things to look at. What happened before the incident, and what happened after the incident.

Before the incident, no crime has been committed. Nothing wrong has happened. All that exists is the potential for a crime. A smart human being will do their best to bring as low as they can the odds of a crime happening to them. After the crime has been committed, it is out of the hands of the victim, and the crime is now the fault of the perpetrator.

So It's not the girls fault that she was kidnapped, that is entirely the kidnappers fault, and he bears all responsibility for it. But if we look at the point before the kidnapping happened, the girl should have done whatever she could to ensure something like this doesn't happen. For example, not getting into some strange guys vehicle. So she does bear fault in not doing her best to lower the odds of something bad happening to her. She doesn't bear fault in the actual kidnapping.

What ever happened to just your friendly neighborhood chat, heheh.

Who knows how she ended up in his car? Unfortunately the story doesnt give that information. However, it would appear that she was held in his apartment against her will. She probably waited until he was out of the room, went to the toilet or something similar then she used to her phone to get help (still cant understand why that took 24 hours though). Just my guess. But there are still a few holes in the story that will hopefully get filled in one day.

Whether or not HE believed it was kidnapping it WAS kidnapping, as the girl is 15 years old TOPS!

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

“I took her to my place, but it wasn’t a kidnapping.”

Is having the head empty an advantage for surfing ?

Aug 14 ...the girl failed to return home from school.

If the family bought the story she was at school that day...

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

why next day, why not same day she called her sister or friend or at least inform her sister that she is going on a ride with an unknown person... Did her sister called on her mobile before logging a complaint? oh and did Police track her mobile LOCATION? SUPER IDIOT case...

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

For this he'll probably get probation and a warning.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Sensei - I tend to agree with you, otherwise she would call a police... she had too much fun and decided to get out of eat easy once she got tired of the dude, tbh though the guy is an idiot for messing up with underage

4 ( +5 / -1 )

She called her friend, and her older sister filed a missing person's report. Where are the PARENTS!?

19 ( +20 / -1 )

It was just plain fun that didnt turn out the way she expected too!!! Another lesson learned for these young girls that think that they can lure men for some cash to satisfy their whims on some expensive designer what have you's! Have you ever heard of sex tomo??? Meaning sex friend, I have sex with you tonight, tomorrow it's forgotten...but of course I would prefer it if I had a little present as well...

2 ( +9 / -7 )

Why call a friend for help instead of the police? Because she knew she was gonna be in trouble. You can hear the conversation..."Hi Mika I'm in Hachioji. I met this really cool guy and he took me to his place yesterday. We drank some beer and played video games all night. I fell asleep and just woke up. What should I do? My parents are gonna kill me!" "Don't worry Yuka. I'll call the police and tell them you were kidnapped."

23 ( +25 / -3 )

Elbudo Mexicano you wrote " I really doubt this guy forced her into his car, with a gun, knife etc..in front of everybody at some 7-11 konbini out there in Chiba! Stupid girl!" How do you know were you there? Dude you make some of the most dumbest comments nothing you comment on makes sense. All we know is a 36 year old man took advantage of a young girl. You live in Japan why is it that you cant understand that most Japanese females cant say no to men in Japan. Its simple think about it did your wife say no to you? Then why call the little girl stupid? Lets say she didn't know better its simply the Japanese female polite way of not wanting to say no.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

"Stupid is as stupid does" Both are guilty. Why did she wait a day? Because she was done having fun (whatever it was), needed to get home, and didn't want to catch it from her parents.

9 ( +13 / -4 )

deal gone bad? don't believe HS girls that much, they got more evil than you can ever think

1 ( +12 / -11 )

"I took her to my place, but it wasn't a kidnapping.” So he wants to call it "Surprise abduction of a 14 year old girl" then?

It's not kidnapping if you yell "surprise"!

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Whatever the circumstances, you should never blame the victim and that goes for child molestation cases also.

3 ( +11 / -8 )

Who was the adult in this situation? He's 36, she's less than half his age. Don't blame the victim.

7 ( +17 / -10 )

"Stupid girl!"

Blame the victim?

-11 ( +11 / -21 )

36 years old and dumber than a box full of rocks!! What an idiot this so called surfer from Hachioji! Talks to a Jr.HS girl, takes her to his place, let me guess?? To give her surfing lessons out in Hachioji?? This girl also had better wake up and smell the coffee! What was she doing talking to a stranger, an adult male and how did she end up in HIS CAR?? I really doubt this guy forced her into his car, with a gun, knife etc..in front of everybody at some 7-11 konbini out there in Chiba! Stupid girl!
