Police in Gotemba, Shizuoka Prefecture, said Sunday they have arrested a 45-year-old Ground Self-Defense Force member on suspicion of assaulting his teenage daughter.
According to police, Sergeant First Class Masato Nakano beat his daughter, whose age wasn’t revealed, between 10 a.m. and 12 noon at their home on Saturday, Fuji TV reported. Police said Nakano grabbed the girl by the hair and slammed her head into a desk. He also hit her face.
After the incident, the girl ran out of the house to a nearby koban (police box). Police said she was not seriously injured.
Nakano lives with his wife, who was home at the time, and daughter. Police said he has remained silent but his wife said he lost his temper during an argument with their daughter.
Police said the girl had consulted teachers at her school in the past about being abused at home.

We have been raising our granddaughter as if she was our own child, she's 11 now and I've never laid a hand on her. Raising my voice, threatening some type of punishment, anything negative has never done anything but made her clam up and get angry. So I have long since backed off, because I didn't like the atmosphere I was creating in the house. I even prayed "God I need wisdom to deal with this child" and it turns out dealing with myself was what I needed the wisdom for.

How about punishment in kind, repeatedly!

That poor girl.

If he is found guilty, he will be discharged without severance pay. However it is up to the wife whether to press charges or not.

that fool should be fired on the spot and do so serious hard time behind bars!
not to mention become pennyless once he gets out!

military-types tend to not respond well to defiance, disobediance and other forms of "insubordination". combine that with a teenager who may or may not be going through the phases of rebellion. a volatile cocktail, to be sure.

Why do most automatically condemn the father for the abuse? Wife, child and father at home on a Saturday morning, sounds like this is a case of parents trying to do the right thing but going overboard (slamming head on desk). Furthermore, the father being in the military has no relevance to the story.

Too little information to be objective here. If you've seen some of the Teenagers in the UK... you could imagine a rather heated confrontation.

The father might have to deal with a very hostile atmosphere that was created by the mother. The father is very busy supporting the family. If the mother doesn't teach the children to respect the father it creates tension and many problems.

Maybe the father doesn't deserve respect because he's a child-abusing POS.

If you've been in Japan for a while, you'll know that parents basically pay for all their kids' mistakes. There is no real punishment for them. "Kids" get away with murder here, and the parents have to apologize and pay up. We don't know how bad the girl is anyway, not enough details. overboard, probably but "slammed head into desk" and " not seriously injured" don't add up.

lots of victim-blaming here huh she already reported abuse previous to this and now she gets her head slammed in the table and somehow she deserved it? damn people
