Six cars mysteriously catch fire in parking lot in Kitakyushu

Police said Saturday they are investigating a case of serial arson after six cars caught fire in a parking lot in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, early Friday morning.

After receiving a call from an apartment block resident at around 6 a.m. Friday, firefighters rushed to the scene and found the remains of six cars that had been destroyed by fire, NTV reported.

Police said the cause of the fires has not yet been determined.

Police said the incident is just one of a series of mysterious fires that have erupted in the surrounding area in the last month, involving cars, vending machines and garbage containers.

What do you mean "mysterious?"

"The Gods are angry?"

"Spontaneous combustion?"

More likely someone put a torch to them and the police haven't found out who it was yet.

Doesn't seem that "mysterious" to me. It seems they have a serial arsonist(s) on their hands.

Cars, fill of highly flammable gasoline might possibly catch fire if someone had been sloppy at the gas pump and someone later threw a cigarette, but vending machines are really not flammable.

The only mystery here is the identity of the arsonist, not whether there is one.

"Mysteriously"? You've got to be joking — somebody torched them and the only mystery is who?
