Police in Tokyo said that a soap dispenser in a public toilet in Edogawa Ward was switched with another dispenser containing acidic liquid on Tuesday morning.
The ward office received a complaint from a man whose hands began stinging after he used what he thought was liquid soap provided in a public toilet in front of Funabori Station along the Toei Shinjuku Line, Sankei Shimbun reported. After receiving the complaint at around 8:40 a.m., a ward office maintenance employee checked the soap dispenser and confirmed that the container had been switched.
Police said the bottle was filled with a highly acidic solution and that the person who switched dispensers faces a charge of inflicting bodily injury.
After the incident, ward employees began retrieving soap dispensers in public toilets. The soap bottles were installed in Edogawa Ward’s public toilets as a preventative measure against the coronavirus.
Since Tuesday, there have been no other reports of injuries.

Not interesting but, utterly Disgusting. I pity any Child naively pressing down upon the Soap dispenser as they'd been told to do within school - only to find the skin on their hands burning away. How do you console a child confused then about what "grown-ups" tell them ?

Hmm... very interesting.

only a big loser will do something like that.

I think what is more surprising is that a public toilet in Japan had SOAP. Usually, only ones in private establishments do so, while ones inside/around train stations or at public parks do not.

Strange things have been happening in Japan as of late. This was an intentional hit on the people the area.

And the perpetrator probably exhibits an introverted, quiet as a mouse, external personality. Typical of this type of psychotic behavior in Japan. His defense will be he was lonely or stressed. Needs to be prosecuted and incarcerated to the full extent of the law.
Fighto!
Execution? No one suggests that. He has probably not killed anyone - yet. But capturing and locking away this dangerous psychopath is absolutely imperative.

@ALL
Thanks for the -1, God help you, if you go to the UK without being aware that it's not like the "Japan Disney Land" experience.

@Fighto!
So should we hang that Person - rather than simply just wasting money locking them up ?
Fighto!
This sociopath must be found and locked away for many, many years. This is not a heat of the moment anger attack. Its a methodical, planned attempt to badly injure innocent people.
I doubt he will be satisfied and just stop at this.

Sadly some people have it in their nature to do stuff like that. Their mindset isn't like the rest of us. Serial Killers get their kicks from what they do - but how do you identify the causes that gave rise to their terrible actions ? I guess, similarly we will never be able to identify the reasons for why that person chose to put acid in the dispensers.

"dispenser in a public toilet in Edogawa Ward was switched with another dispenser containing acidic liquid"
domestic terrorism...

That sort of thing doesn't normally happen in Japan - in the UK, yes I'd sort of expect it and wouldn't - ever use a non-secured dispenser of whatever, there.

I have always been a little wary of those dispensers in out of the way places. Too many weirdos with a grudge against the world, and too easy to put anything in there.
oldman-13
What kind of man would do something like that?

It beggars belief how low, and stupid people get.

I seriously hope there were cameras outside and they find this moron. Really need to make an example of the perpetrator, face and name on TV.

Good god !!
Everybody be safe and carry your own small bottles ( keitai type ) of hand astringent around with you.
Unbelievable.

Great, something new to worry about

I really don't get why people do this. If they're angry at someone, take it out on them directly but keep innocent bystanders away from it.

The individual(s) responsible for this needs to be punished to the fullest extent

What a loser. Could really hurt young kids' skin. Hopefully security cameras will lead the police to him.

Wow that is evil alright, now people will think twice about washing their hands in public places right when they need to be doing it more than ever, who ever did this needs to caught and taken out of circulation, now lets hope the copy cats dont get on to it.

That's evil.
