What is disheartening is that these students didn't live in the era of war and occupation, and probably not even their parents. They seem to have inherited their hate and anger from the aging survivors.
We need to break this chain of handing down prejudice to the next generation and instead focus on how we can move forward constructively.

Give credit where credit is due! Kudos to the cops for doing their jobs and not sitting on the sidelines!

I guess when your economy isn't doing so well, you need a distraction to stir up nationalism and there is no better whipping boy than Japan. This is a tried and true method and probably wont be the last we will see of this...

Technically, they don't have jurisdiction and cannot enter without authorization. However, it is traditional with this kind of offence to call the local police and, if necessary, grant them permission to enter the premises.
showchinmono
Yes. They all are victims of Korean subliminal indoctrination, fabricated narratives and complete lies.
You just cannot explain the difference between perceptions of SK and of Taiwan by the number of victims.
Meiyouwenti
Looks like Japan needs to have SDF troops stationed to protect its diplomatic compounds in SK.
Chip Star
Agreed.

Glad the police are sane there.

just how sad, bitter or brainwashed someone has to be to live 78 years and torch himself for nothing

Thank you Korea! You have now given PM Abe the pretext to close the Pusan consulate
oldman_13
Well, at least it was orderly with no violence.

@OssanAmerica
They were escorted out by embassy police into the custody of the Busan police.

Japan and Japanese companies should start preparation to completely withdraw themselves from South Korea leaving no assets there, and domestically eliminate Korean influence including abolition of preferential treatments of Korean citizen.
No liabilities should be left. The revenge of united republic of Korea will come sooner or later.

Embassy police can refer any security guard that is authorized to arrest, detain, and defend a diplomatic mission. Some countries use their military, like the US, some use their civilian security forces, and some contract it out. Individuals involved non-violent offenses on embassies are referred back to the host country for connivence and good will. Especially if the person committing the offense is a citizen of the host country.
Also under most treaties, anything you do in a consulate/embassy cannot be superseded by the host county's laws.

Anyone interested in the diff between those protesting youth in Hong Kong and those intruding youth in South Korea? The former sees and thinks in their own brains and make their own judgement but the latter completely brainwashed and forced to dance to perform
OssanAmerica
Yes, just what is needed to solve this problem. Another anti-Japan organization. The country is peddling backwards. Excellent job by the SK Police in apprehending the protesters. Although I find it unusual that SK police have any jurisdiction within a foreign diplomatic compound, Japanese or otherwise.
Akie
SK isn't HK, as simple as that.

@Alwaysspeakingwisdom
They won’t close the Busan consulate. Do you know how many cruises go from Japan to Busan all the time? To close that consulate would most likely cause some worries to Japanese citizens and it would reduce the taxes Japan gets from those cruise companies. You don’t want to disrupt your own cash flow.
Yubaru
No action by the police COULD have been an option, but like the professionals as they showed they are, they didnt let any political BS get in the way of them doing their jobs!
Shin Ra
This...especially if your company has any ties to any company that was around back in the early half of the 1900s...otherwise you risk losing your trademark and IPs.

@OssanAmerica
Embassy police are security guards with a title and no real authority. Typically, when serious incidents occur, the local police are invited in.

Six people. That's all. Nothing to make a fuss about.

We have to lower standards, Hillclimber. In a country where the local authorities actually issue permits to permanently base certain statues in front of certain embassies after the national authorities agreed it is a bad idea and they'll see what can be done about them, not selecting deliberate inaction and actually doing their duty is actually praiseworthy.

So you have millions protesting in Hong Kong to protect their freedom, 10s of thousands protesting corrupt leadership in Puerto Rico and South Koreans protesting because... they didn't get a good enough apology for things that happened over 70 years ago.
There is definitely something wrong with this picture.
vanityofvanities
Change the name of the country from Republic of Korea to Republic of ANTI-JAPAN Korea.
Rena Matsui
Send them to Okinawa. They are always looking for fresh recruits who hate Japan.
Heckleberry
Again, the 6 people? You care that much do you?
If they want to protest against a new ice cream flavour it's their choice.
The only thing that makes this incident news is their violation of territory by entering the Japanese embassy.
The people surprised that the Korean police arrested them have NFI, Korea is a real democracy while Japan is a pseudo-democracy at best. In fact Japan has more in common with China and Russia than it would admit to.
JustMyThoughts
So many people have pointed out that it was only 6 people and then they went our thier racist rant on all Koreans. The lens that is being used in this thread is ugly.
OssanAmerica
Thanks but as I don't read Hangul, who exactly are these "Embassy Police"?
alwaysspeakingwisdom
"They won’t close the Busan consulate. Do you know how many cruises go from Japan to Busan all the time?"
I guess you have not heard but Koreans are boycotting Japan. Moreover, the Japanese government is planning to announce visa restrictions on Koreans. So bye bye Pusan consulate you won't be needed.
extanker
Considering it isn't the first protest and it won't be the last, it's a shame that they've lost they're sense of what is a worthwhile issue to protest.
Ex_Res
Looks like Japan needs to have SDF troops stationed to protect its diplomatic compounds in SK.
Stationed where?
Heckleberry
Are millions of Koreans protesting against Japan? This was 6 people staging a protest and you want to compare it to large scale protests in other countries? Koreans can protest in their tens of millions when it matters. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/14/opinion/south-korea-social-mobility.html
WilliB
I sometimes wonder if there is something in the water in Korea that makes people go bananas.
JustMyThoughts
Scary how any comments boasting agression toward an Allie with complete economic withdrawl and boycotting of all goods are the chorus of this group.
What's wrong with protesting? I like protesters and I don't have to agree with them to support and 'love' thier FREEDOM to protest. Disagreements can be the beginning of a 'lasting' resolution, or not.
Toasted Heretic
I disagree. Okinawan protesters love Japan, that's why they protest at the bases.
JustMyThoughts
I have zero issues with protesters, protesting. Their goal is to create news to bring voice to thier complaints. I grew up in the 70's in Oakland/San Francisco, America, I saw how the people supported the institutions that criminalize and oppressed movements. So, I wish for them to stand strong. They have every force of society against them.
