At least 12 cases of arson involving small trucks, motorbikes, bicycles and vacant houses have been reported in Tokyo's Kita and Adachi wards since Friday.

Police said Sunday that six fires were reported early Friday morning in Adachi Ward, Fuji TV reported. Those fires involved vacant houses and bicycles that were deliberately set on fire.

On Saturday night, between 9:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., six more fires were reported, involving small trucks, motorbike seat covers and discarded blankets and futons, in a 600-meter radius in Kamiya, Kita Ward.

If anything it seems the arsonists are aiming at places and things, burning which would not lead to casualties., making it a deliberate act. At least.

Disturbing mental health issue in this country. Where else you find so many people enjoying burning stuff for absolutely no reason? (excluding "protesters"/hate-driven nuts and alike)

While I agree on the mental health issue, I disagree it might be connected to this case of arson. If the problem here was the mental health, the culprit would be caught running naked setting everything he stumbles upon on fire. Here, the culprit managed to avoid any detection, avoided burning anything that could threaten other people (on purpose or by sheer "coincidence") and even burned some discarded things, like they do on third world dumps. Whatever it was, it was not connected to how insane the culprits were. Can not be connected just yet.
