I may always amazed at how candid these confessions are...What interrogation techniques are these coppers employing?

A telephone book maybe?

So after reading the commentaries I am perplexed: in the end, whom are we blaming? The policeman who spit on his badge and violated the law, or the Chinese student, who did not take proper precautions to ensure his safety and did not pay heed to possibility of scum being out on the streets the same time as he was?

A lot of pedestrians cross red lights when there aren’t any cars in Tokyo. Unfortunate for the foreign student. He was probably going to get into a university from April

Kurisupisu, it was the poor pedestrian who ignored the red light, the pedestrian light.

Well, it is routine for the Japanese driver to blatantly ignore red lights on a regular basis so for a cop to do so doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

Being penalized for running a red light is not a traffic crime on the'to do' list here....

It’s sad for the young boy who paid the ultimate price, but in all fairness he too, walked through a red light, and probably wasn’t looking either !

now he works as a missile commander in the army.

I wish the boy all the best. He’s in a much better job, can’t say rewarding though. The reason he didn’t make the police probably was that too many people wanted a steady salary with next to nothing to do. I read somewhere Japanese police fired 6 shots in 2015. Go figure.

he is from the traffic division. he was speeding? i got arrested for J-walking, the first arrest in my life. he killed someone.

on another point...

How low is the level of recruits into the police in this country? Violent, drunken, corrupt and stupid seems to be the criteria for a job in the NPA.

actually a friend of mine's son tried to enter the police. it is really tough. he couldn't enter. now he works as a missile commander in the army.

He hit that guy going 100 kilometers an hour, the poor victim must have been Airborne for quite some time. Let's see what if any punishment he gets.

Two morons. One dead, another in prosecution. Sad situation indeed. And this wasn’t even s chase, he just ‘felt’ like speeding cos nobody would fine him, right?

Although he shouldn’t have been speeding, this guy was J-Walking & DIDNT look both ways ?!

Poor young student, killed by a brainless moron who wanted to race his car fast. That's really sad. Hopefully the moron will have 25 years in jail to reflect on his stupidity.
