And what if any purpose is there to inserting CD's or trash into a door? Scratching head here at the stupidity. Ahh now I get it, he was too lazy to toss it into a trash can, but wait there are no trash cans.

True, but considering the possible delays in the train's schedule because of a malfunctioning door.

Article did not say the result. Was the door stuck open and the train delayed? Was the door stuck closed? What does "malfunction" mean? Was his CD stuck in the door? What?

Maybe he was running late and wanted to delay the train to obtain his chit confirming the late running of the train.

Maybe he had CDs buy 'The Doors' and confused the band name as instructional ?

Inserting any object in any normal automatic door might be a mischief or the beginning of practicing vandalism. Doing the same to the door of a train is worse , because a malfunctioning door might not shut properly and might even open during the run, causing people fall out and death.

I don't believe the guy of his 20 who did this was not aware of the risk of serious accident may happen and I think he was wanting it to happen.

I could be wrong, but I think trains in Japan are setup so that the cannot run with the doors open I think the are rigged to the braking system. The brakes won't release unless the doors are closed. Likewise, the doors cannot open unless the brakes a locked.

Almost daily news, the train traveled one full station with a passenger squeezed between two doors, or just their briefcase or backpack, or dragged others down the platform after pinching their legs. The door were not fully closed, yet the train started.

I personally saw from inside the car, a woman was running to catch the Nanboku, double doors, the car and the platform door, she fell, both door closed, not fully of course but with a gap of about 30cm by grappling, pinching her legs and upper torso, and the train started. People were screaming, someone was quick to hit the emergency button, she were not tore into two.

Yes, the train doors are dangerous, if they go malfunctioning they can cause fatal accidents.

Kids today are lucky! When I was young, we had to insert 16" vinyl LPs in subway doors - and that is if we had a subway! We were mostly stuck with sticking them between our bicycle spokes, and that didn't make much of a social statement - but then, neither did this guy's, unless they were Lady Gaga CDs, in which case a big thumbs-up for him!

If the doors use an optical sensor to determine when they are completely shut, a CD or trash placed between the sensor and the source could fake the system into thinking the door was shut when in fact it was still open.

It was like Mission Impossible. A team of operatives needed to delay that train and the least suspicious way was to jam a door by paying an unsuspecting student ;p
