Police in Omitama, Ibaraki Prefecture, said Friday they have arrested an 18-year-old high school student after he placed small rocks on a section of train tracks forcing the train to perform an emergency stop and suspend service.
According to police, the incident occurred on Dec 2. TV Asahi reported that the youth put the rocks on the tracks near Hatori Station on the JR Joban line. The conductor told police he heard a strange noise and noticed pieces of a larger rock that had been strewn about the tracks.
Nobody was hurt in the incident.
Police quoted the student as saying that he wanted to hear what it would sound like when the train ran over the rocks.
Last month, four similar cases were reported in the area.© Japan Today
