Student attacked by knife-wielding man on Kanagawa street

A 20-year-old female university student was attacked by a knife-wielding man while on her way home from a part-time job in Atsugi, Kanagawa prefecture, at about 2 a.m. Sunday.

Police quoted the woman as saying the man was standing near a vending machine and when she walked by, he lunged at her with a knife, NTV reported. However, when she screamed, he fled, police said. The woman suffered an injury to her left hand, police said.

The attacker was described as being about 170-180 cms tall, in his 20s or early 30s and was wearing a knit cap and face mask.

"such kind of companies need to reconsider changing shifts for men doing night time shifts, women doing night time should have some escorts bac home!"

Kuuku, that would be a big step backwards. There were such laws until fairly recently, and they were used as an excuse to keep women out jobs or to keep from promoting them. A better solution is to give all kids some pratical self-defense training as part of Phys Ed class. Women working late jobs or shifts may want to take up a martial art.

This woman scared off her attacker and ended up with just her hand injured. I'm thinking a defensive wound. Good on her. This is a much more promising story than of the older (27y?) woman in Kyoto who needed a 12 year old boy to save her from a perv on the train, because she was too terrified to even give voice.

I hope the police find him soon. I live really close to the place where happened so I am really worried about the safety of my family.

realdoll: knives with a blade longer than 5.5 cm are already outlawed in Japan! (meaning you even cannot carry a swiss army knife!)

I think he is advocating that metal knives be banned, regardless of length.

Hey it's better than NK sending up another missile! Which is reported to have happened!

FizzBit: Atsugi is nothing else than a big village of 220,000 inhabitants!

That's the third random stabbing this week. I dunno about banning knives, but banning masks and hoodies would be a good idea.

Funny. I was attacked last sunday in kanagawa, fuchinobe at 9pm by a knife. Cut my left hand and face. Except it was not 1 lone person. Hope they catch this scum.

Better that he was a coward and fled than stay and inflict further damage. Somebody somewhere knows who this might be but sadly people here are very backward in coming forward.

What a coward. Hope they catch the perp.

He'll do it again. I just hope he's caught, and gets a very long stint in prison. That's something like three stabbings in two days.
