Student leaps to death after trying to kill girlfriend

A 21-year-old man leapt to his death after allegedly stabbing his girlfriend in his 9th floor apartment in Hakata, Fukuoka, on Tuesday. Police were called to the apartment by a witness who saw the man jump and found the woman, a 23-year-old college student, in the apartment. The victim, who has not yet been identified, had been stabbed over 20 times on her back and legs. She remains in critical condition in hospital, police said Wednesday.

Police said the body of 21-year-old Naoki Yuuda, also a college student, was found on the ground below. Police believe he jumped from the balcony after he stabbed his girlfriend.

Police said they believe that Yuuda stabbed the woman outside the apartment at first, possibly in a car, because they found bloodstains leading to the apartment.

Police said the pair had been dating, and police received a call in September from the woman reporting that Yuuda had become violent when she tried to break up with him. Yuuda had made a written statement to police promising that he would no longer become violent.

Yuuda had made a written statement to police promising that he would no longer become violent.

Yeah, right. He should have jumped first.

Ahh how typical of these knee-heads..."I promise I will never behave violent with my beloved girlfriend ever again"...then next thing you know is...she's been stabbed 20+ times and he jumped out of the building like a coward. At least he's out of his misery for good. Domestic Violence is like a damn cancer...destroys everything! When will it be enough?!

What is with this shame and rejection thing? NOBODY likes being rejected but it looks like the lack of social skills and shame culture are at play in another senseless case. Hope she recovers soon.

Stabbed in the legs??? Maybe she is a figure skater!!!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Written statement?!?!? What moron believed that statement would in any way limit or prevent violence by this guy or anyone for that matter.

Abuser: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to nearly kill her. Look I'll sign a paper promising never to do it again."

J Cops: "Sure. Otsukare, off you go."

The original Japanese story according to Asahi is kinda different from this translation:

http://www.asahi.com/national/update/1124/SEB200911240005.html

There is nothing about someone seeing him jump. Rather, they found blood stains leading from the entrance to the ninth floor...

I hope the poor woman is OK.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Stupid Cops. They obviously don't care one whit if people are killed or not, only that they have the proper paper trail to prove it wasn't their fault.

Hope she pulls through and somehow overcomes this traumatic experience.

Too many J nutters.

MoBass4u, shame and rejection surely have nothing to do with it. If this was in any western country you wouldn't come out with such tosh, so please don't make such judgements about Japan and the Japanese. People who do this sort of thing are basically abnormal and psychotic. Regardless of nationality. Remember that she wanted to leave him, odds are he was giving out bad vibes because of his mental instability. People like that usually do, and eventually even the most thick-skinned person starts to feel their skin crawl when they look into the eyes of madness.

But why was she in his flat? She'd left him, right? Did he invite her up to collect her belongings and she went alone? Or did she lose her mind and take the violent scumbag back into her arms? Either way, bad choice and I hope she comes through as unscathed as possible. Glad he's dead, saves a lot of trouble for all, and a lot of expense too on what would have been his trial.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I agree with MoBass4u, before are too quick to criticize Japan when in their own country a similar situation is far worse. The article says she may have been first stabbed in a car, thus the wounds to the legs (argument, driver reaches over and stabs legs repeatedly). He's violent, drags her up to the apartment (trail of blood), throws her on the floor and stabs her in the back, in a fit of rage, shame, out of control, jumps out of window.

BTW, what's "tosh?"

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Haha, written statement. I see Japanese Police have a sense of humor.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

how can anybody make a good case why it is sad this guy died...obviosuly he was a nut job and the world is better off without him!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

dammit, surely it does! This fool obviously could not take the fact that she wanted nothing more to do with him and in his "shame" of being rejected he lashed out because he knew of no other way to handle it. I agree with you that HE is abnormal and psychotic but you only perpetuate a growing problem here that needs desperate attention. What a cute phrase...tosh.

I hope she recovers... And what a waste of life. I don't pity this idiot one bit.

Women have it really bad here in Japan. Stalkers, ex-boyfriends, whatever, they are all free to harass and/or menace/assault women and police usually respond to urgent requests for help with something along the lines of "there's nothing i can do until he attacks you". Don't believe me? Ask J-women about their personal horror stories and chances are you'll hear about it.

Yuuda had made a written statement to police promising that he would no longer become violent

The thing is that this must work most of the time for it to be persisted with. A warning and a look at the trouble coming your way should be enough to scare most sane people straight.

I know we should not lay into the Victim but she did get bashed in September and broke up with the guy so what the hell was she doing in his car 2 months later?

I can guarantee one thing. Neither of them will be doing it again.

good riddance

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Foe all those that were up in arms the other day about labeling cops here as "Keystones", what have u got to say about their written promise campaign?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What a waste of 21 years of life to become so wasted in mind! How stupid is that now for a young man to do this sort of thing to a girl he thought he loved? What a waste ... You could raise a lot more intelligent dogs and cats using teh same resources! Shame on men like that!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Stabbed 20 times and still alive? She's a figher for sure. Hope she pulls through.

What on earth are the police doing taking written promises? Did they get him to hanko it, too?

Whilst I think justice has already been served, I think it is sad that society let's people like that go without help, and then bashes them when they commit abhorrent crimes. "Not my problem" mentality.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Bad result: she's injured and traumatized. Good result: He offed himself so he won't be repeating this idiotic childish behavior.

Agreed. All the best for this girl.

"Women have it really bad here in Japan."

This woman did. The incidence of violent crime against women is, however, far lower than in most other nations.

Yes, I promise, just let me go and I will no longer become violent towards my girlfriend. I will murder her. What a failure, he didn't even succeed in immediately killing her after being stabbed twenty-times! He should've killed himself, I'm sure the reason why he defenestrated himself was because it was the only sure-fire way of killing himself.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Okay. I don't know whether to cry or scream. At least the girl lived and the guy died. This guy could have been a total psycho all along or he could have lost it after she tried to break up with him. Yes, rejection can turn a guy in to a raging lunatic although it seems likely that he was a bit deranged in the first place.

As for the 'written promise'...what kind of BS is that?!! He had become violent with her (she may have had some kind of visual injuries) and the cops did nothing?! Unbelievable!! How about a restraining order?

And why was she at his apartment? That's a valid question which has a coupld of possible answers. A. Although she had tried to break up with him, she was terrified that he might hurt her so she continued seeing him, waiting to find a way out. or B. the guy stalked her, forced her into the car, stabbed her and took her back to his apartment.

I hope this woman can recover; physically and mentally. If I were her, I think I would want to go back to that police station and give the stupid, useless officers a piece of my mind.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I guess policemen (or lawmakers) don't want to do anything against stalkers because it seems japanese prison would get full very quick.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

kurisutofu, no... it's because the policemen are men too.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

right, and the it would be full of stalkers and keystone-stalkers as well.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Stabbed over 20 times? I hope she makes it

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@dammitplease don't make such judgements about Japan and the Japanese. People who do this sort of thing are basically (abnormal and psychotic).

abnormal and psychotic= that's 75% of japanese :)

how long you been in japan?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

what a complete loser. 20 attempts and he still couldn't finish the job

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Police believe he jumped from the balcony after he stabbed his girlfriend.

Believe? He actually jumped to his death after a police officer tried to grab him after breaking through from the neighbouring flat. It is a fact.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yuuda had made a written statement to police promising that he would no longer become violent. Yeah as if that would stop him. Who the hell believes the word of a man who hits women?

This woman did. The incidence of violent crime against women is, however, far lower than in most other nations. Reported far less you mean.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Tommyun: Exactly! The stats say that 13% of women in Japan have suffered physical violence by a male partner but abuse is largely unreported because of inadequate laws and failure of police and law enforcement officials to treat such crimes as serious offences.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Police said they believe that Yuuda stabbed the woman outside the apartment at first, possibly in a car, because they found bloodstains leading to the apartment.

dolphingirl, this probably means that he stabbed her in the car and brought her upstairs. But if that is the case, she must have screamed or raised hell on the way. Unless she was unconscious, that is. If she was unconscious, it was a difficult task to bring a young lady all the way to the 9th floor, even using the elevator.

Maybe he stabbed her in the car and pleaded his apologies and asked her to come to his room so he can give her first aid and call an ambulance.... maybe when she was in his room, she threatened that she will report to the police and will break up anyway, maybe at that moment he stabbed her again.

My imagination is running wild but there is more to this than meets the eye.

"Police said the pair had been dating, and police received a call in September from the woman reporting that Yuuda had become violent when she tried to break up with him."

I was about to say leave it to the key-stones to ignore a situation until a violent crime occurs when the next sentence came:

"Yuuda had made a written statement to police promising that he would no longer become violent."

However, I haven't even finished reading it when I realized that if the police simply took this statement and let the case go, which I guarantee is what happened, then it simply makes them look WORSE than if they had ignored the woman's calls altogether.

Anyway, I'm glad we're seeing a case of the would-be murder failing in his attempts before taking his own life (I'm not advocating people take their lives in any case, but if they're going to do so after killing or trying to kill someone else, I'd rather they just do the latter and leave the former to live), but reading about the woman's injuries I'll be surprised if she pulls through. I seriously hope and pray she does, though... poor woman.

Netgaijin: "My imagination is running wild but there is more to this than meets the eye."

You're right there is more than meets the eye. In all likelihood the guy stabbed her and she bolted, making the elevator while he had to take the stairs, or something like that, and he got her again in/at her apartment. I'll wait until the details come in, if at all, without trying to make it sound like I'm making fiction out of a serious incident. However, I will say it's also entirely possible, especially in this society, that the woman did scream, make a lot of noise, and bang on doors as she tried to flee, and people simply ignored it and hoped it would go away.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

smithinjapan, I agree to the J-society thingy. People are too scared most of the times.

Its "His" apartment, not her, as per the news post.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If he had already stabbed her in the car and then held the knife to her back forcing her to go up to his apartment, she may have been too scared to scream or he threatened to kill her if she did. Also, it depends on what time of day this occured as to whether there would have been a lot of neighbours around.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I pray that this poor woman pulls through and recovers not only from her physical injuries, but the psychological ones as well. It's a shame the boyfriend killed himself -- such a quick death was far too good for him. I hope he knew real, mind-numbing fear as he plummeted towards the pavement. that at least would be some justice.

I agree with everyone's confusion over why the woman was at his apartment, and why there would be blood leading TO the apartment. If he'd stabbed her in the car, why would he stop and bring her up to his apartment to finish the job? Why not just kill her in the car? And if he DID stab her in the car, and she was mobile, why didn't she run AWAY? You certainly wouldn't run to the 9th floor of your stalker boyfriend's building and stumble into his apartment to call the police. This would seem to suggest that if she was wounded before being taken to his apartment then she MUST have been unconscious. How much blood was found outside the apartment? Was it a spatter, or pools of gore? Those details would be necessary for trying to piece together a timeline.

Again, my prayers are with the victim in this beastly crime.

"Yuuda had made a written statement to police promising that he would no longer become violent."

I didn't realize that after committing a crime, all you needed to do was promise you wouldn't do it again. I'm off to steal a car. Don't worry, it's just this one time. I promise I'll never do it again after this.

Save this crap for the ignorant... women in this country can be the same and can be incredibly cold and trying. There are many stories of them simply using their boyfriends/husbands for what they want and having unrealistic expectations. They certainly are not all like that, but don't give women this sob story without realizing how women can be in their own way.

What a stupid idiot! He should have just lept to his death with out hurting this poor, innocent girl! I hope the girl is ok.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yuuda had made a written statement to police promising that he would no longer become violent.

How about no longer have any contact with the girl...?

Or does this reek of too much common-sense...?
