Four 15-year-old middle school girls were arrested Tuesday for attempting to eat and run at a Japanese restaurant where they had ordered and consumed 20,000 yen of food. The girls, who over three hours ate shabu shabu, fried chicken, edamame, french fries, chocolate parfaits and other foods, told police they had heard from a friend that it was possible to run without paying at the restaurant.
One of the girls was quoted by police as saying, "We thought we could eat things we normally couldn't afford."
After the girls entered the restaurant, which has not been named, they sat in a private room near a window that was big enough for a person to fit through. After eating around 30 different dishes, two girls went out the front entrance while the other two climbed out the window into the parking lot.
The restaurant had been subject to similar incidents in the past, and the manager noticed something was strange after he saw shoes outside the room but no one inside. The girls split into pairs and fled on bicycles, but an employee was able to catch up to them in a car about one kilometer from the restaurant.© News reports
