Police in Ota, Gunma Prefecture, have arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of stealing tires from co-workers’ cars at a company manufacturing plant in April.

According to police, the suspect, Kenta Kajimura, stole eight tires off two vehicles in the employees’ parking lot on the night of April 15, Fuji TV reported.

Police said Kajimura has admitted to the charge and said he sold the tires to shops dealing in used tires because he needed money to pay back debts.

Don't those store buy used tired for like 5,000 to 10,000 a set?

I mean... the time and effort it took to get EIGHT tires he could have cleaned a gutter or painted a fence and made some of that money.

He stole the wheels which had the tires on them. Must have had a way to jack up the car to remove all four wheels. Kind of extreme type of crime since the chance of being caught would be high.

May be bad English translation but when I read it, I wondered why someone would just steal the tires and not the whole wheel. It would be much faster not to take the tires off the wheels and sell the actual wheels too. Doesn't make sense to me either. Congrats JT on another job well done :\

No doubt it was wheels and tires. I can't imagine anyone just steeling tires off a car. I put a nice set of 17" wheels and tires on my car a few months ago, but I also spent and extra ¥7,000 on a set of locking wheel nuts. Ain't nobody steeling my wheels!
