A 53-year-old woman was stabbed in the neck and cheek when she chased after a man who stole 10,000 yen from her in a supermarket in Higashi-Murayama, Tokyo, police said Sunday.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Seiyu Kumagawa supermarket, Fuji TV reported. The woman was at the cash register, about to pay for merchandise, when a man snatched the 10,000 yen note out of her hand and ran. The woman chased him outside the store, where she was stabbed.
Police have arrested 24-year-old university student Kentaro Nakamura on suspicion of robbery and attempted murder. However, he has denied the charge, police said.
Shortly after the robbery, police received a call from Nakamura’s father, saying his son might have been involved in a crime, after he came home with a bloodied knife. Police said that by chance, both of Nakamura’s parents were shopping in the store at the same time, though he apparently was unaware of them being there.
Nakamura was also identified from surveillance camera footage taken in the store.
Police said the woman is in a stable condition in hospital with injuries that will take about two weeks to heal.

Props to the perps father. That's gotta take balls. That's some tough love right there.

Stabbing a woman in the neck? And earlier a guy robbed a woman in a wheelchair? Thieves in Japan are extra dickish.

Guess this was the only way to finally get the son out of the house. I am glad he was caught.

Kind of seems an open and shut case. Weapon found at son's home, video from the store, eye witnesses.
He won't get much use out of that university education now.

Nice to see nobody else from the store bothered to care about chasing after the guy.
