It seems the building passed all building codes
Maybe the building codes need to be looked at
And what other buildings passed it

Perfect storm of what happens when you use a building that was not made to be used as it was being used.

While that may be the case with this particular business, just because something is required by labor standards does not mean that it actually happens.

Oh I fully guarantee I would jump out of 2nd or 3rd floor. No doubt about it, and I am in the older demographic. Better a broken leg or knee injury than instant cremation.

Why were there no fire ladders/ropes? The company should have recorded records at the main office that employees were trained, correct? Can a reporter from Japan Today conduct a more thorough story for us readers regarding what requirements should have been available.

I often run this scenario through my mind when I'm in a building with more than floor. Jumping from up to the 3rd floor is doable w/o too severe of an injury, I think.

In 20 years here, I've worked with a few companies for several years and none of them have had a fire drill for all employees, only the few who are trained to deal with a fire.
Again, this happened so quickly that there literally was no time to think. Fire drills may have saved lives and we don't know if they had them or not.
This whole attack was senseless and the perp needs to feel the full force of the law. No pity for him whatsoever!

I'm sure they had emergency drills every year. It is required by the labor standards.

So alarm rang quickly and they did not have time to go to the plentiful balconeys if staircase was full of smoke.
I wished employees would have had a real fire drill before. So important.
Hope survivors will received good npsychological treatment as they saw horrors, as described.
