A swimming coach has been arrested on suspicion of molesting an elementary school girl during training.
Hirotake Hoshi, 22, is accused of inappropriately touching the girl’s body at a swimming school in Iruma City, Saitama Prefecture on July 18, Fuji TV reported. The incident came to light after the girl told her mother.
Police said Hoshi has admitted to the charge and quoted him as saying, “I touched her to satisfy my sexual desire.”
Police said Hoshi has alluded to committing similar crimes in the past.

At 22, good that they caught him now and when it was just touching, as bad as that is for a pre-teen girl.

It is a personal responsibility issue. Age of the coach, male or female, doesn't matter.
Part of being a responsible coach is never being in situations that would allow any improper activities from yourself or any of the kids. My coaches, all female, always did things in groups.

@Farhaan: Are you suggesting that no man can be trusted with young girls? That's quite a statement.
...
When hiring anyone for a job involving responsibility for young people, the interview questions need to be a lot more in-depth, the interviewers more attentive.
Oughtn't there be a psych. evaluation of some kind? though I have no idea how that would fly legally, to have a question like, Have you ever felt sexually attracted to a young charge?

A rape for a rape? That's a barbaric attitude that allows US prisons to be the cesspools they are. Japanese prisons are no fun, but at least the guards don't allow prisoners to rape each other.
It's good this guy got caught. Hopefully, he will never be allowed to work around kids again. But I am glad I don't live in a country where they sentence people to be raped.

I know I'm repeating myself, but Japan needs a Sex Offenders register and police checks on anyone who want sto work or volunteer with children or vulnerable adults. It won't stop every offender but it will help prevent repeat offending.

(Contd) its the state's way of saving money but continuing the punishment (you can't go home and you can't stay here). Another incentive to reoffend....

Clubs should be set up with safeguards that prevent this type of one-on-one situation from developing. All prospective coaches should also be told that its one strike and you're out, and out for life.

“I touched her to satisfy my sexual desire.” well, off to prison you go my son, I am sure there are a few nasty men in there that will have "sexual desires" about you, then you will know what it like to be on the receiving end! Poor girl, well I am glad she told her parents and they did something, and reported it.

Sick bastard.
Why?

Sick but honest, at least he didn't use the "I was drunk and don't remember a thing " excuse,

Wish US would pick its punishment. They not only have the rape for a rape, but also the prison time, and then lifetime scarlet letter (sex offender registry) that never goes away. Even murderers don't have the latter.

In scouts it's always two scouts together, minimum. There should be no situation where an adult is alone one on one with a kid. It's the best way to avoid the problem.
Hope the girls recover from the trauma.

if I remember rightly in the UK the swimming instructors stand/kneel at the pool side giving instructions, is it the case the instructor was in the water when this action took place? if so a quick measure would be to have the inturucters on the pool side.

Reading about these sexual crimes day after day makes me wonder why Japan doesn't have a sex offender registry
Do the hustle
Off with his nads! That will control his sexual desires.

That would be quite an extensive list. I'm afraid there would not be enough staff to monitor such a register due to the labor shortage.

@Maria
No, but since there is some perverts out there it is better not to take chance. Why not a female coach for girls !

@Strangerland
Prevention is better than Cure.

Assigning a 22 y old male swimming coach to school girls is the foolishness in the first place.
