A man wielding a knife robbed an all-night restaurant of 440,000 yen in Bando, Ibaraki Prefecture, on Sunday morning.

According to police, a man entered the Coco's Iwai restaurant in Heta at about 1:30 a.m. and threatened the female cashier with a knife, Fuji TV reported. He demanded she open the register and then fled with 440,000 yen.

Police said that at the time, there were two customers and four staff in the restaurant. No one was injured, Fuji reported.

The man was described as being 30-35, about 170 cms tall, dressed in black and wearing sunglasses.

It was probably a banana.....

I've never dined at a CoCos restaurant, any good?

I like CoCos, but I like all curry in general and on principle, so it's highly likely my endorsement is biased.

you are confusing Coco's and Coco ichii.

Gun crime down, sword crime up... because it is punished less severely, i suppose.

Sunglasses at 1:30am. Too bad he didn't trip and fall on his own sword.

As nobody was injured-it could have been tinfoil wrapped around a tree branch.....

Surely in these "late night" restaurants, at least the cashier should be armed with something - maybe even a "toy" gun?

I bet the sword was more expensive than what he got there. Go rob a bank if you have to do those kind of things!

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

?? sword? It said knife. But I agree, you'll get more bang for your blade at a bank. More buck for your blade?

Love that word "wielding". Makes you imagine all sorts of things that probably didn't happen.

The story has been corrected from sword to knife.

I like Coco's near Nagareyama... great service and nice grub. I didn't know they were open 24 hours though... the cashier must have been terrified. Hope the get the piece of scum who robbed the place.

First a sword, then a knife could have been a nail file a threat is a threat, verbal is usually enough. Yelling " give me the cash" would do it. Hand in the pocket...agitated and angry. Hope they have CCT. Shouldn't be too hard to catch, the staff will need much longer to recover they were robbed of personal confidence that takes time to fix.

I think I saw 10 million people that matched that description....oh well....

JT, Headline still says "Sword"...story says "knife".

Ninja the ripper? Wow, glad no one was hurt. Coco's is good food. I guess he wont be eating their anymore. Hope they catch the man before he starts on banks.

Step One in how to get killed protecting Your Boss' money, which is insured so Your Boss will get it all back.

The best protection against getting robbed of 440,000 yen late at night is to put 340,000 of it in a safe that the night help can't open.

Correct on both counts. No one's life is worth risking over money especially for such a small amount, actually not even for 1,000 times that amount. And as you point out, it is insured and will be returned. Now I'm going to contradict myself . . . Why was there so much money out and accessible? 90% (perhaps 95%) of that should have been in a night safe.

That business owner has done a dis-service to his fellow business owners by showing the criminal element that there is easy money to be had by robbing business' such as his. I sincerely hope the police catch this person quickly to prove me wrong about easy money. Sadly the hard economic times will only encourage more of the behavior.
