Police in Tokyo have arrested a 37-year-old elementary school teacher on suspicion of violating the child prostitution law after he allegedly paid a junior high school girl for sex last year.
According to police, Takahisa Nagai became acquainted with the 14-year-old girl on Twitter and arranged to meet her at an internet cafe in Shinjuku’s Kabukicho district on Sept 6, Sankei Shimbun reported. Police said he paid the girl 20,000 yen and performed a lewd act on her in a private room.
Police said Nagai has admitted meeting the girl and that he knew she was a minor, but quoted him as denying that he did anything obscene.
Police said Nagai and the girl had exchanged messages several times before their encounter.

No! She was groomed by an internet predator and paid money to keep her mouth shut. She needs counseling and he needs jail.

They are public conversations. They were not spying, they were simply observing what was visible to anybody.
If they were private, they wouldn't have been able to see them. (Not without a court order for specific accounts.)

Reminds me of the teacher at a friends kid's elementary school: he got arrested for installing a spy camera inside the girls toilet, !!!

This is how serial abusers and rapists get away with their crimes.
Rape and sexual abuse is the only crime where the victim is immediately doubted, and support goes to the criminal. It is sickening to think that we still live in a world where people are willing to believe that a child 'led on' a man or has lied about a man raping her/him.

Oh please don't go into more rumours and conspiracies don't we have enough!
No these internet cafes have had problems in the past and many review or note strange or unusual activities and report then to the police out of safety for users and to protect themselves from litigation.
Quite simple. Gown man goes into the private little room followed by young girl, I would expect that to set off alarm bells with the staff.

Only thing I could find is that they were looking into a separate case when they came across the perp's conversation with the schoolgirl.

So probably like Numan wrote they are monitoring Twitter in some way.

The word pedophile has been diluted recently the same way rape and racism have been diluted. Which is a mistake, because it dilutes the impact of these words when they are used correctly, ironically resulting is minimizing these terrible crimes when they occur. Pedophilia, until the recent age of wokeness, meant attraction to pre-pubescent children.
There are actual other words used to describe sex with legally underage girls, as there should be, because a 14-year-old is not comparable to an 8-year-old. If you really believe that this man is a pedophile rather than a perv, you should call for the imprisonment of just about every male rock musician over the age of 50. Maybe Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Jimmy Page, Steven Tyler and Sting can form a band behind bars.
WilliB
commanteer
Exactly. And the word "child" too. Always immediately running with the strongest terms makes the words worthless and trivializes real bad crimes. What is so difficult about keeping some nuance.
WilliB
girl in tokyo
Yes, we noticed that. No nuance, hence you trivialize the real horrible crimes that actually happen. That is what was pointed out to you.
wayan Ubud
we all know what should happen to these type of rats!

Yes. Because you weaken your argument by twisting words for shock value rather, rather than using them for their actual meaning. Assuming that your aim is to educate rather than rant, that is. If you are just ranting, have at it.

This is dialogue from the movie “Eyes Wide Shut”, with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman:
BILL:
And what did he want?
ALICE:
Sex. Upstairs. Then and there.
BILL:
Well, I guess that's understandable.
ALICE:
Understandable?
BILL:
Well, you're a beautiful woman.
ALICE:
Oh, I see. So does exhaustive research show that every man I meet wants to screw me?
BILL:
There might be some exceptions.
ALICE:
Does that mean that all men, with possibly some exceptions, want to screw all beautiful women, married or otherwise?
BILL:
I suppose, basically, yes.
ALICE:
So does that mean you wanted to screw the two models?
BILL:
I did say with some exceptions.
ALICE:
And of course you're an exception?
BILL:
Yes.
ALICE:
How come?
BILL:
Because I love you.
ALICE:
Any other reasons?
BILL:
Because we're married.
ALICE:
Any others?
BILL:
And because I wouldn't lie to you or hurt you.
ALICE:
So basically what it comes down to is that you wouldn't screw the two models out of consideration_for me, but otherwise you would.
A very simple dialogue yet it shows how every man in the world thinks. There’s several reasons why most men don’t cheat on their wives or have sex with much younger girls but none of those reasons is because they don’t want to. Hence the saying “All men are the same”. It’s nature we’re talking about. And when people have the chance to post anonymously, well, you know.
We should respect women and when they are the victims, think of them as if they were your daughters or sisters. That is imo a good start.
@girl_in_Tokyo
Complicated but you do your best and I applaud you for that.
rcch
@Zaphod Nobody’s arguing with anybody. Just stating facts.
About the (dis)respect. When we read about sexual abuse related stories, we see comments like:
”it’s her fault”
”she should’ve known better”
”it was her choice”
”consensual so it’s perfectly OK”
”that’ll teach her a lesson”
”she knows what she’s doing”
If that’s not being disrespectful I don’t know what it is. Not to care about them as human beings? Just let them be?
About my previous post: cause and consequence.
@Strangerland
Of course you love the women in your life.
tbh ( borrowing your own word ) I think you distorted what girl_in_tokyo said and the real meaning behind her words.

I met a sexual health doctor about 8 years ago in Toyama prefecture who told me 20% of 14-15 year olds were sexually active. STDs and teenage pregnancy was her main concern.

@Antiquesaving
Obviously, you have no idea what you are talking about! It is not the first time that police have done it.
Thank you! I told you @Antiquesavings does not have a clue!

The article says internet cafe, and since the "private rooms" aka cubicles in internet cafes are not supposed to be used for other activities than computering, I do not see the liability. Can you explain?

Let me get this straight.
I point out that this man is not only defending an adult for engaging in sex acts with a child, but is also referring to young girls as "nubile", and you decide to attach my post in order to play semantics?
Get out.
girl_in_tokyo
ommanteerToday 10:36 am JST
Let me check what you are saying.
You think using the word "child" instead of "young teenager" weakens my argument against a 39 year old man paying a 14 year old girl for sexual favors.
Really.
I think you should consider whether that is an argument you want to invest yourself in, instead of perhaps attacking the man who called the 14 year old girl "nubile".
rcch
girl_in_Tokyo
You’re trying to teach rocket science to 10 year olds. You can’t win this. Time to let it go.

So the fact that thousands nubile girls (if not lany more) wish to have sex for money shall be not adressed.
Prostitution is the oldest job in the world.
Focus on rapes, assaults and bullying, that kill or maim persons.
Having consensual sex is not a lewd act.
If so, reproduction is a lewd act ?
Better education or just parental care, that's the point.
commanteer
She might have. A 14 year old can easily pass as much older, especially in a place like Kabukicho, where the assumption is they are adults. I personally remember a 13 year old in a club late at night. Never would have guessed, but we were tipped off.
But generally speaking, 37-year-old men don't seek out teenagers for conversation. Especially when their day job entails working with kids to begin with. Too many pervy teachers in this country.

WilliBToday 01:21 pm JST
And what would you say if I told you that by attacking me instead of the men in this thread who are condoning the sexual abuse of young girls, you are trivializing the entire conversation around sexual harassment and assault?
Also, what if I pointed out that how women perceive sexual harassment and assault varies from victim to victim and that no one other than the victim herself has the right to decide "how bad" the crime is, or how she feels about it.
If we followed your train of logic, there would be a strict hierarchy of crimes in terms of how "bad" they are. But you don't say how the rating would be determined or by whom. Were you planning to consult the victims at all, or were you just going to decide yourself how each woman "should feel"? And were you planning on factoring anything else into your consideration, such as past history, personality, or other psychological factors that affect how people perceive the things that happen to them?
Considering your statements here, I imagine your process for creating this hierchy would depend only on the bare facts of the case, and I highly doubt you planned on consulting psychologists or women who have experienced sexual harassment or assault.
And you accuse me of lacking nuance? Holy ffffing mother of the great goddess.
Again, get out of here. Men have no business whatsoever stating unequivocal personal opinions on how women should feel or react to sex crimes, and this conversation proves exactly why.
WilliB
girl in tokyo
Yes, and no need to consult psychologists. There are facts, like the difference between a baby, a toddler, and a teenager. And there difference between actions, ranging from violent rape to mutually agreed hanky panky or groping. It is not all the same, where we immediately use the strongest words. The old thing about crying wolf, you know.
Err, what? Because I am suggesting to you to be a bit more nuanced? What a crime...

Oh, I know they will never learn. There is no "winning" against people who refuse to address the points being made or whose arguments are based on the non-logic of sexism and misogyny.
My intention is to a) help them reveal the true extent of their misogyny; and 2) make them look like fools to anyone else who is reading.
And I always succeed, e.g.,
WilliBToday 03:15 pm JST
I guess you don't realize that psychology is deeply embedded in criminology.

StrangerlandToday 02:39 am JST
You don't; but other men do, and it's not at all a rare thing. So yes, it is "a man thing," as you put it. Your words; not mine.
You don't; but other men do, and it's not at all a rare thing. The entire sex industry was build upon satisfying male desires - built by men, for men - so yes - it very much is "a man thing" - again, your words; not mine.
Of course you do - I don't think that even needs to be pointed out, as it has nothing at all to do with what we are talking about. It is a fact that many men indeed DO see women purely as sexual objects. Why otherwise would those men so freely feel entitled to grope, grab, harass, and rape?
Also, why you may love and respect the women in your life, and would defend them to the death, I have read your posts on dozens of occasions where you did not hesitate say women lie about sexual harassment and rape when there was absolutely no reason whatsoever to do so.
I wonder, would you be proud to put your real name on those posts and show them to the women in your life? Hmm....
Why do you take it personally and get offended when it is pointed out that there exist men who rape, grope, and harass?
I don't even describe men in the way you are claiming I do. And I don't have to - the men here do a bang-up job of describing themselves in that way on a regular basis.
So you should be upset at men like WilliB, who wants to rate sex crimes on scale with all emotional and psychological factors removed, and then accuses my view of lacking nuance.
You should be mad at men like Jonathan Prin who call young girls "nubile" and blame them for men wanting to have sex with them.
You should be angry at the men who victim blame a 14 year old.
But no, your anger is on me, for coming here and pointing out the very obvious misogyny in these mens' posts.
Your anger shoudl be on your own gender. Why you put it on me and mine, IMO, is the issue you need to take a very, very close look at.
Strangerland
Your words are saying men do this, and that I don't. So either I'm not a man, or "men" don't do this. Some people do. Or are you saying no woman has ever done a crime like this?
"Many men" is not the same as "men". When you go on about "men this" and "men do that", it's misandric rhetoric. Which is exactly why I point out that you are wrong that "men" do the things you are saying.
Seeing as I've never said any such thing, much less "on dozens of occasions", this quote says more you and your misandry painting all men as being one-dimensinal, than it does about anything based in reality.
I don't. I take it personally when you claim a group that I am a member of - men - rape, grope and harass, something I do not do. Just as if I were a law-obiding black person protesting claims that black people are criminals, as a non-raping male, I protest claims that men are rapists. Some are, many aren't. Claiming "men" are is misandric, and as a male, I take THAT personally.
When you use arguments of misandry in your accusations of misogyny, your argument gets lost in the noise of the misandry.

Everything girl_in_tokyo says is ultimately correct.
The problem is this porn culture and too many sexually frustrated men out there and Japan certainly doesn’t do a good job with those two things. I believe it all comes down to respect and ( real ) love.

*So the fact that thousands nubile girls (if not many more) wish to have sex for money shall be not adressed. *That is subjective!
*Prostitution is the oldest job in the world*. True but there's laws in place that make it unacceptable
*Focus on rapes, assaults and bullying, that kill or maim persons. *It is the acts that these people commit that leads to rapes assaults and bullying, that kill or maim persons
*Having consensual sex is not a lewd act. *Regardless if she or he is below the legal age it is still against the law
*If so, reproduction is a lewd act ? *Again that is subjective you can say because someone was rape it is reproductive with in fact it is not it is a lewd unwanted act which could result in an unwanted pregnancy
*Better education or just parental care, that's the point. *You can educate all you want, and provide the best care possible but the urge and the people doing such act whether legal or illegal is never going away

Arguing with yourself? Nobody here disrespected women; however there was some reaction "girl in tokyos" over-the-top choice of words.
Strangerland
I don't prey on young women, or feel entitled to sex even with very young girls. That's not a "men" thing at all.
I don't pay for sex, and I ensure my lewd acts are with women I'm in relationships with and having consensual sex. What you described is not a "men" thing at all.
I love the women in my life, and I am here to support them as they are to support me. I care deeply about them as human beings with feelings of their own, and I would die for a couple of them. That is not a "men" thing at all.
You image of what "men" are is extremely misandrist and distorted. To be honest, it comes across entirely as a stereotype. Do you have any male friends or male family members? Your descriptions paint men as demons, waiting to rape any woman they can if only the chance arises.

StrangerlandToday 09:04 am JST
I don't feel I need to say "some men" to clarify when it is patently obvious to anyone reading that the statement "men do X" does not refer to all men on the planet - just like the statement "dogs bite" doesn't refer to all dogs on the planet.
I shouldn't have to modify every single post to make it clear that I don't think every single man on the planet is guilty of being a rapist or is guilty of sexual assault.
However, I have on multiple occasions done exactly that - I have modified my posts with "some" or "many" or "those men who" because I know it's not all men.
I am sure you have read those posts, because you replied to them. But that didn't help - despite my many posts using careful language, you still accuse me of this binary thinking.
I can only conclude that the reason you take my posts the way you do isn't because I am unclear - it is because you chose to take them that way.
That is what I would like you to think about.

No - the point is that men prey on young women because they feel entitled to sex even with very young girls.
No - the point is that this type of sexual encounter is abuse.
No - the point is that men make sex into a lewd act by paying for it instead of forming relationships with women and having consensual sex with them on a respectful, equal basis.
No - the point is that men seem to see women as sex objects put on earth for their personal pleasure, and care nothing about them as human beings with feelings of their own.
No - the point is that she is FOURTEEN.
And the point is you are actually defending a pedophile.Again, where is the block button, the report button?
These types of posts should not be allowed.
It's beyond disgusting that there are still men on this earth who would not only condone sex with a 14 year old girl, but blame the girl for being too sexy for the man to resist.
I cannot BELIEVE this poster refers to a CHILD as "nubile."
