Police in Takasaki, Gunma Prefecture, have arrested a teenage couple on charges of burying the dead body of their newborn baby girl.
According to police, the 16-year-old mother of the baby and the 17-year-old father placed the body of their newborn infant in a bag and buried it in a public park in Takasaki, Gumma Prefecture on Monday night, Fuji TV reported.
The girl had given birth on the same night at the boy’s house, police said.
The two have admitted to the charge of abandoning a body, police said, but as of present no details have been provided as to the cause of the baby's death.

Hell.....stories like this make me want to cry. There are so many good things about Japan but incidents like these and others, people in situations where they don't know what to do with their newborn child are just heartbreaking.
The social welfare system in this country is failing these teenagers and others who do the same or similar, from Abe on down, all in government, prefecture, city, town, and village need to take a cold hard look at themselves and consider just WHOM they are working for.....this poor baby included.

It made me cry! At the same time wonder about their oarents..how come they never noticed the changes in their daughter? Etc...,
If there's anyone out there that feels like doing the same thing please don't hesitate to contact me I have all the time and the capacity to help you!

I would hope that if either of my kids ever found themselves in this situation we would have a strong and trusting enough relationship for them to come and ask for my help and advice.
Two children being in this situation and making decisions seemingly without adult help is terribly sad.

Now the girl will be traumatized forever as she is guilty of abandoning her child. The baby had the right to live but died.

OMG WTF! Madness!

Wow. Were the boy's parents home when she gave birth? Some adult in their lives must've known she was knocked-up.

They are "children" as far as the law is concerned, so they'll get a light sentence, which will then be suspended.

Once again, from the heart, "Adoption! Adoption! Adoption!"
As with mental illness, this is one more thing that needs to be openly discussed.
Jsociety needs to take a giant leap into the 21st century.

What an ephemeral existence! RIP little baby.

Sadly this is never going to happen as long as Japan continues with it's archaic laws regarding registration of children and blood connection to a child.
While more and more couples are getting together and bringing children from previous marriages and the new father or mother adopting their spouses children, and having them entered into their family register, it's still very rare for people to adopt an unknown child.

My God bless that poor baby.

thats why sex ed and birth control should be publicized, and readily available... ask any jp girl how hard it is to get the pill and how much it costs... worse than islamic countries...

This is a society where doing something like this is their only logical choice and it's not just because of the lack of welfare and support, but also because of a general lack of caring and loving in the education system and culture. Pet puppies get shown more love than the children in this country.

Marilita, you are a good person. I hope that people other than Japan Today readers know how to reach you. I also hope that you are not alone.

Waddo- agreed. It's a tad more common here in the US.

Same as abortion.

No. She actually gave birth. At the boys house. Sad.

If you can't deal with the consecuenses of your stupid teenage unprotected sex, keep it in your pants and maintain your legs closed....buying some condoms would of been better.... Now they will have the live rest of their life the hounding memory.

No clue as to the cause of death of the baby, but let's hope it was not deliberate.

While 1st - or at least 2nd - degree murder would be an appropriate charge for the both of them, I doubt that they'll get such. Yes, they are minors, but at age 16 and 17, many, MANY know what is right and what is wrong. Dealing with teens as I do on a daily basis, these two knew what they were doing. Stupidity doesn't justify this, nor does youth, nor is this or was this an "accident" in any loose sense of the word. This was a deliberate choice, and sadly enough, they will likely suffer zero consequences for it.

Everybody must think about the social need of family's ttradition to take care of childrens. This is the most important and forgetable value in our present people. Mothers killing her daoghter, abandoning their babys, marriages without future,etc......maybe we are in a civilization's crisis.
