How horrible and alarming too!

Nature or nurture: What led these teens in Japan to committing child porn crimes?
Good
So then over 50% were NOT teens.
Desert Tortoise
One does not normally imagine kids being the perpetrator of child porn. Have to meditate on this.
Disillusioned
This is what happens in a country where the age of consent is 13.

Initially somewhat surprising, but then when you consider that Japanese males are socialized into porn from a young age, it all adds up, as do the unending upskirt photos, train harassment, and worse.

These damn Hormones can cause all kind of strange behavior, LOL

With pressures mounting on teens to Strip or Look Beautiful driven by Social Media Platforms no wonder that kids as early as 13 are getting engulfed in this storm.
There was an article last week about limiting the age of kids having access to certain social media platforms, it helps but Japan like the rest of the world are now suffering from the effects of these platforms that are making Trillions of $ off our children..

To paraphrase Bill Clinton: it's the sex, stupid!

The same thing that is happening all over the world: teens sending nudes of themselves to other teens when they are in a relationship. They don’t know or forget that it’s illegal. Parents find out the stuff on the kids phones and calls the police.
It’s even more common in the US and other countries.

Interesting to know if a willing 16 or 17 year old is child porn.

So now blaming the children for committing crimes. The adults that, for however they got them to do it, are the "offenders", and those are the one's the cops should be targeting!
Huh? They went from being "offenders" to "victims" in the space of 4 short paragraphs?
therougou
Not a large percentage, when you consider that age group is most likely to be in contact with others their age. The scary part is that 60% were older creeps.

@Yubaru
you know, you classify all the cases, put them in categories and count. That's making statistics, only after that can you start to interpret, blame, understand, etc.

Decadent west is worse..

Is it considered a crime if the actual teen is sending "smut" that THEY made themselves?
Wouldn't that just be considered stupid sh** that all teenagers do/did, even before smartphones?
I mean we ALL did stupid sh** as teenagers. Us older folk are just super lucky smartphones and social media wasn't around before 2000.

Who is enjoying looking at kids? I don't get it.
Who?

16yo girls lying about their age on dating apps and sending dirty pics to older men. I’m shocked. Surely this can only be a Japanese isolated problem! In high school in the States some of the cheerleaders used to lift up their shirts for cash behind the bleachers after games. And that was only the “innocent” stuff they did. Simpler times…

Why exactly is THIS relevant to the story ?
" The number of cannabis-related criminal suspects " ?

My teen wants an iphone and my response was when you can afford to buy one and pay for the monthly bills is when you can have one.

"Interesting to know if a willing 16 or 17 year old is child porn."
As a father: You darned right.
By law: Yes
As a human: You need to be kept away from children for even asking this.
justasking
Wrong. The increase is because they are only catching the easy ones - teens and smartphones. They are largely ignoring the serious ones that are not reported because they are difficult to catch and won't help in their job promotion.
Alongfortheride
No, this is what happens when children are given electronic devices to play on to early.
Ah_so
While Japan obviously has a huge problem with the sexualisation of high school girls, it's not clear from the above the extent to which the data includes teenagers above the age of consent who willingly exchanged images of themselves with partners, and not for commercial purposes either.
There's naturally a big distinction exploitative pornography of a teen for commercial purposes and those who take selfies for fun (however unwise).
Jonathan Prin
Between children, it is not child porn. It is harassment, blackmailing, stealing but hardly ever something about sex itself.
It is indeed stupidity under supervision of adults.
Makes me think of kaitenzushi terrorism, where you have stupid kids doing unhealthy things. Still, it isn't at all going to make you sick in truth.
Yubaru
And just what do you think about the adults that started it all in the first place? Oh and it's adults that are pushing the porn industry, not children.

Japan has a reputation for fetishizing and sexualizing minors - you see in in their manga, their anime, their maid cafes etc. etc. It's an inherently cultural issue that really needs to be nipped in the bud.

Just curious, but if the perp is in the same age group, shouldn't it be adjudicated as regular prn? I mean, the same thing applies to orientation: if a minor is attracted to another minor, no one bats an eye and treats as adults attracted to other adults. Shouldn't the same apply for minors involved with other minors in sx, etc?
ginster
In this digital age; with the easy access to porn and adult content online this deviancy is expected. Along with lack of social guidance at home and influences from the social media circus we are heading down a darker road ahead.
Yuuju
Are the devices really at fault?
it seems more like parents’ not investing in their child’s moral growth. First of all, each teen who commited this should be asked ‘Why did you do this?’ Money? For fun? And then, one can make more accurate conclusions as to what the real problem is.
lostrune2
They're teen sexting!
Dickpics and slot shots!

If teens look at other teens....is that really paedophilia?! Ever since the advent of cameraphones, this has become a problem around the world.....I worked in schools back home at the beginning of this, and the sending and asking for nude shots steadily grew. It's a problem as these images can haunt young people throughout their lives......but it's not paedophilia...is it. Adults inducing minors to take nudes or send nudes or gathering nudes from a 3rd party source....that is paedophilia.
