Russia can't handle the obvious truth that it is a war criming country.

It’s fine for the ICC to issue arrest warrants for Putin and the like but how will they be enforced? You can’t just fly to Moscow and arrest Putin.

8 ( +11 / -3 )

The ICC is a plaything for ideologues, lacks real power and resources and anyone to is a part of it is only interested in titles and benefits (like villas in mountain resorts, private schools, business class travel, chauffeur....etc

A proscribed terror group attacked an Israeli concert, and there's an arrest warrant out for the Israeli PM? Tomoko, you're a joke!

-7 ( +7 / -14 )

Well done, Judge Tomoko Akane. The world stands with you.

12 ( +18 / -6 )

Judges can also be judged.

Where was this Kangaroo court during the bombing Serbia, bombing and invasion of Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, and Libya?

You do not have to get mad if you do not know the answer.

And who created it with what support?

Two out of four of which were 100% legal and none of which were wars of aggression.

It's fine for Japan to issue a red alert for Carlos Ghosn but how will it be enforced? You can't just fly to Beruit and arrest Carlos

Zero wars of aggression currently.

..and thats all she can do about...barking at the Moon...

What does our world need some kind of court for? We have Taiwan. Without trial and investigation, the indictment is, voila, ready

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

“It becomes very difficult to justify the court’s existence,” Sterio said.

Ditto for Israel "from the River to the Sea" (and the off-shore gas fields of Gaza). Btw., that Sterio should be given the last word in this article on the court tends to skew the argument. The question should be why certain powerful states are still allowed in 2024 to commit war crimes with impunity. What on earth are we doing to each other, the lesson of the Holocaust so soon forgotten?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Certainly, US and Israel are now heavily backing and arming rebels in Syria. ICC judges are increasingly frustrated at culture of war, economics of the military industrial complex, especially in the US and Russia etc.

No 'hot' topics today at JT, as ICC rather irrelevant. We need another 'cool' Biden pardon to chew on, maybe his younger brother is next!

Russia's attempts to annex it's neighbors is quite clear and from their own words.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

In this article, important to observe there are two countries mentioned that have annexed land of their neighbours.

One of them, a repeat offender, is actually an ally of the country of whose senator was criticized by the Japanese judge.

A) the Court has also issued a warrant for Hamas leadership in relation to that attack.

B) Netanyahu has killed 10s of thousands of civilians and waged a near genocidal campaign against the Palestinians that has been way more devastating than October 7. If he's broken the law he should face the consequences just like Hamas should.

Smart. And while we're at it, let's issue arrest warrants for Putin and his satellite trump. They are both criminals of the highest order and degree.

No, it is not "fine" for this political cangaroo court to issue arrest warrants for leaders of other nations. This is a ridiculous travesty of justice. The ICC is a political charade.

i initially misread that title as "Russian US senator" and assumed it was talking about Rand Paul.

Yo Boris, it's actually "kangaroo kourt", if you're interested.

(In hysterical shrieking voice) "Won't someone think of the dictators???"

I stand with judge Tomoko Akane. She certainly has more credibility and ethics than this Lindsay Graham filth.

Clearly, you are not familiar with the purpose or powers of the ICC. Blaming a Judge because nations who are members of the ICC refuse to comply with arrest warrants is the fault of those nations. Mongolia for one. The ICC cannot go and invade nations and arrest leaders.

"President Joe Biden called the warrants for Netanyahu and the former defense minister outrageous and vowed to stand with Israel. A year ago, Biden said the warrant for Putin justified and said the Russian president had committed war crimes."

Double standards and selective hypocrisy. No surprises.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Double standards and selective hypocrisy. No surprises.

This happens when you set the country up as a friend to Israel and an enemy to Russia.

Putin's ten times worse than Netanyahu, though. Israel's response, while excessive, had a clear justification. Putin has none at all other than satisfying his own ego and bloodlust.

Funny, Israel already did that with the Golan Heights and we aren't seeing any action to aid Syria in getting it back, Israel is in violation of nearly 30 UN resolutions including killing of children, life in prison for 12 year old for throwing rocks, destroying UN built water cistern in the west bank to deprive the Palestinians of water so the will move and be replaced by more illegal settlements. Israel has violated agreements not to expand any new settlements but has since increased them to double to 280 from the agreed 140 and in every case the IDF soldiers enforced these takeovers of Palestinian land against all international laws and all agreements made by Israel.

Stolen land and killing civilians long long long before October 7th.

What were you saying about Russia?

Funny how none of that invalidates Putin's arrest warrant.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Oh, but it does.

Besides, any decent settlement in former Ukraine, along with sensible border changes UN-recognized, will include a clause invalidating such politically motivated ICC warrants.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Lindsey Graham's description of the ICC as “a rogue and politically motivated organization” can hardly be bettered. The same goes for the whole of the UN. No one takes these people seriously. Disband the whole thing.

I have not seen any words from the Russian government claiming anything like this. Maybe you can tell us where you get this profound insight from?

Ethnic Russian children to boot. Apparently this ridiculous court believes they should be handed to the Zelenski government.

Putin has abducted thousands of Ukrainian children. Forced re-education and forced adoptions.

What were you saying about Russia?

I am not a friend of Israels West bank settler policy, but this comparison simply does not hold. The October 7 atrocities are on a completely different level from the incidents you mention, and the background of the conflict is completely different.

I totally do not understand why many people who correctly understand the Russian position vs Nato encroachment then turn around and misrepresent the struggle of Israel against islamist organizations that want to destroy it. The situations are completely different.

Ethnic russian because Putin says so? Absolutely if their closest relatives are in Free Ukraine, they should go to Free Ukraine.

It was right there on the thing Putin signed.
