Thieving cousins detained for stealing handbag in Hokkaido

Police said Tuesday they have taken into protective custody two young cousins on suspicion of theft after they allegedly snatched a woman's handbag as she passed by. The two boys, aged 10 and 13, both of Asahikawa, approached the woman, 66, from behind on a bicycle, and snatched her bag containing 10,000 yen out of her hands. The woman was uninjured.

According to police, the pair admit to the charges, and were quoted as saying they just wanted some money to spend at the arcade.

Police said a similar incident occurred on Oct 21 when two boys stole a woman's purse containing 5,000 yen.

How did they get caught? Did the old lady chase them down, or did they bring in helicopters and a load of police cars? We are curious out here.
