Defense requests to let the couple communicate were rejected six times before the Tokyo court granted permission Friday.

This sentence needs o be re-written.

To think about it a CEO usually gets around 3-5percent of a companies turnaround profit which for Nissan was somewhere in the 20bilion dollar range so he was owed more than what he was ever paid those things he allegedly did is really just a bit of creative accounting to avoid paying a large amount of tax.

It should never have gone to the police. If they believe it would save Nissan they are fools and I hope Nissan goes bust cause I for one won't ever buy a Nissan again.

Still despite what you guys have posted, remember the case of the super-pervert R Kelly in America. The FBI has discovered that he's been getting deposited royalty money in a friend's account even though he's in prison awaiting trial for various gross sex offenses and the fact that his record label dropped him and his legal team quit.

You never know what Ghosn may be doing on the side from behind bars. The Tokyo police should be watching everything he does and says and should be recording it.

He has been charged with under-reporting promised compensation and breaching trust in dubious payments.

Yet when Saikawa did it, he gets to resign and walk away. No bias? Pffft

I sometimes wonder what if Goshn instead of claim himself innocent and heavily criticize the prosecutors and the Japanese juridical system would have pledge guilty,display some fake remorse and bow deeply asking forgiveness, maybe in this way he could have a penalty and a suspended sentence and probably be back home.

Yes, BUT the penalty (compensation payment,) would have been at least double.

The date for Ghosn's trial has not been set.

It seems a little puzzling that 3 judges (Kenji Shimozu, Kazunon Fukushima, and Kenji Matsushita) have been appointed as the trail judges, yet no date has been set.

It's moments like this that I understand how Japan has not been invited to the Sc on the UN and how it's neighbours continue to push for war apologies etc... it is these uncivilised moments that speak volumes about Japan's character.

Tribunal system in this country is insane! Ghosn's legal team should be fired. Ghosn should now find an international (USA) defense team and give the local court the wrath they rightfully deserve. You'll see how quickly the court will change their attitude. There is no legal ordinance, statue, article or order that stipulates such condition against family members unless they too are charged. When hired by Nissan as a foreigner, his international rights applies. Period. The court is to abide by the rules accordingly. The moment Ghosn was indicted in USA by SEC it officially becomes an international case. France had their share with early preliminary proceedings against him as well during his incarceration and was exonerated.

Ambushed at the airport on arrival, bizarre "interviews" in a detention centre, prolonged detention, bail with conditions that include non spouse contact, continued "Prosecutor" leaks to the media? Farcical if it were not real. Japan's justice system is juvenile at best.

Educator60, Carlos Ghosn is not a likeable fellow, some would suggest/contend Carlos Ghosn is a corporate hyena.

The question, my parents have rarely spent a day without the loving embrace of each other company. They are almost joined at the hip.

My point is Carlos Ghosn, first and foremost, is a Father and Husband, the odd walk in the park, pursued by the worlds media is a gross violation of what could amount to be the result of a boardroom coup d'etat.

There is more than a smidgen of Boardroom shenanigans, and an underlying political need to return Nissan to Japanese control.

Japanese legal racket is a joke their handing of foreigners and foreign languages is absurd. I had to pay Tokyo District and High Court judges interpreter fees so they could accurately understanding every word of my testimony. When I later received court transcript learned the court appointed interpreter made up words I didn't even say to cover up for her for grasp of English. Judge - tell the court about your vision. Me: I wear progressive lenses that is trifocals. Interpreter - He wears Bosch & Lomb glasses.

When Japan’s prosecutors react to public criticism by taking punitive action, and the Japanese judges allow this to occur, everyone living in Japan should be very concerned about this attack on our freedom of speech/expression.

To be fair, the prosecutors and judges should be barred from spousal contact for an equivalent length of time as this case falls apart. :)
