Tokyo man arrested for underwear theft after instant, raging attraction to another man

Tomoya Ishii was walking through a train station in Tokyo’s Katsushika Ward earlier this month when he spotted an attractive stranger. Given how many people live in Tokyo, that’s not such a shocking statistical abnormality, but Ishii’s reaction to finding some tasty eye candy was abnormal, in that he followed the object of his desire in order to steal the stranger’s underwear.

This 21-year-old Ishii tailed the target home, and once the stranger was inside and taking a bath, Ishii infiltrated the home and snatched no fewer than six articles of clothing, including at least one pair of the victim’s underwear. But while this might sound like another case of panty thieving in Japan, the stranger who caught Ishii’s eye wasn’t a schoolgirl, office lady, or any other female demographic that’s often fetishized in Japan, but another guy.

“When I saw him in the station, I immediately thought he was a totally hot dude,” Ishii told police after his arrest on July 5. After stealing the 20-something man’s clothes, he said he remained hidden in his home in hopes of secretly recording his naked body after he got out of the bath. However, Ishii’s voyeurism plans went awry when he was discovered by a male housemate of the victim, who subdued the underwear thief and aspiring peeping Tom until the police arrived and took him into custody.

During questioning, Ishii told investigators: “He’s just the type of guy I like. I started fantasying about him, and got consumed in that, so I stole his underwear.”

One should not feel any sorrow or humor from this article. This loon is seriously delusional and dangerous.

Nasty article, making fun of something that isn't funny, especially for the victim.

Maybe my problems aren't that bad.......

What is "raging attraction"?

7 ( +11 / -4 )

it's like these articles exist just to show how weird and ridiculous Japanese people appear to the world audience.

Of course. Straight up knocking out and raping the dude, or perhaps shooting up a school would be so much more “normal.”

Sicko. Lock the pervert up, let him try and steal the undies of his fellow inmates!

seadog538July 17  07:16 pm JST Not so long ago this person (the thief) would have been regarded as a common sexual pervert but there are clear indications of homosexual/LGBTI tendencies which shows how the world is changing.

While Japan moves incrementally towards greater acceptance of people who are LGBTQ, this guy is clearly mentally ill with impulse control problems.

this is refreshing comic relief after endless incidents of patricide and infanticide.

The overwhelming power of sexual attraction is no joke. It's the reason for so much suffering in the world. Of course, it must be so because if this drive were weaker, our species would die out.

err.... without same-gender attraction? Somehow I am not convinced

Doesn't matter if it is a man or woman (it definitely differs if it's a child vs. adult), so he should be charged as anyone else is charged in this kind of situation.

I swear, it's like these articles exist just to show how weird and ridiculous Japanese people appear to the world audience.

Kind of. Weird stories around the world make the news, it's just that the Japanese can sometimes be a bit of a different weird to the weird you see in other countries.

So what was to be the final out come ? Was this pervert wanting the underwear so he could smell them, Rub them on his face, Rub them all over his body, Wear them on his head, Put them in his mouth and chew on them or just masturbate with them in hand. I guess we'll never know what this sick dude wanted them for. I hope he received a good beating when he was discovered by the victims roommate. I wonder if when being taken away by the police if this pervert told the victim  "I'll Be Back"

Culture shock via weirdness.

With the widespread acceptance of LGBTI sexual activity it will be interesting to see how long it will be before behaviour that is regarded as unsavoury, such as the activities of this man, become regarded as mere bagatelles and are "embraced by the wider community"

WilliBJuly 18  02:35 pm JST Unamused: Err... you have any evidence that there is difference in the rate of sexually motivated crimes between the alphabet soup "community" and normal people? I am not holding my breath.

". . . normal people."

Bigot much?
