Tokyo man on nationwide wanted list for murdering wife and son

Police on Monday put a missing 29-year-old man on a nationwide wanted list over the deaths of his 27-year-old wife and 3-year-old son in their Hachioji City apartment in late April. Police suspect Yuuya Osawa of killing his wife and son in the early hours of the morning on April 27. His wife died of head injuries believed to have been inflicted with a blood-stained spanner found in the apartment, and his son was found strangled to death.

Tochigi police found a car registered in Osawa’s name and personal belongings identified as his at the top of Kegon Falls in Nikko City in late April, and later found a shirt believed to be his at the bottom of the falls. Police searched for Osawa but he was never found, leading police to believe he faked his suicide.

What a tragedy.

J-cops seems to have no logic on suicide, sometimes they are convinced it is suicide and others not.

what kind of a person would do something like that? but the fact of the matter many people who seemed totally normal to everyone who knew them end up doing something like that!

Looks like he is saying... Yeah... Thats right.... both of them....

actually the clue is pretty obvious he didn't commit suicide, If he committed suicide then the number of death is three instead of two. From the given picture he only gave two death as his finger stated, sorry folks only two death no more.

It wasn't a suicide because he didn't take his shoes off before jumping.

The jury is out of this one. Kegon Falls is quite a drop. If he went over the side, he might have just kept on going. I don't think that suicide can be ruled out. On the other hand, there have been a slew of cases where people "have killed loved ones but could not kill themselves" (you know the standard attempted murder-suicide story we see so much on JT). As such, this chap might turn up under an assumed name (I won't hold my breath, however). If he does turn up, he should get the noose for doing the child.

Please explain/define for me what is a 'spanner' in this case?

Also RIP to the woman & child.

Moderator: A spanner is a wrench.

I believe a 'spanner' is a wrench.

In a way I have to appreciate that JT is keeping track of this kind of news. Imagine if some lady meets this kind of guy on a date. Especially the foreign ones as the Jladies will never go for this kind. This kind of single men target only foreign women. They will use them and kill them later? Quite scary.

A spanner is a wrench.

Murderers rarely switch weapons - the likely scenario here is that the wife strangled the child and the husband bashed her skull in with a wrench when he found out.

"This kind of single men target only foreign women". Scary, yes. About as scary as your odd logic... Why on earth do you think a sicko would single out a foreign woman? Strange logic lady.

How come he is a suspect for murder, and not for abandoning a body like others have been in similar (although not the same) situations?

And Hoolie helped the Jcops to solve the mystery???

Think hard there buddy. You can do it.

Nigelboy,

LOL!

RIP to the child and poor mum. Rot in hell, ugly four-eyed coward. His head looks as big as a basketball. What is it with Japanese men these days, the government is crying out for anyone to have kids, yet the few kids Japan has seem to end up murdered by parents - specifically fathers.

Would it help if I say that women from countries that are located geographically in close proximity to this country and share some cultural aspects, history could easily be victimised by single men such as this one in the news. This man and ones like him that commit a crime need money and food to survive.

If a spanner is a wrench, then why not have it say wrench? The one word is common usage, the other is not.

Molenir: If a spanner is a wrench, then why not have it say wrench? The one word is common usage, the other is not.

Is wrench universally used and understood though? If it is, you have a point where universal communication is the goal. But then again, I sort of don't want things dumbed down because some people don't know what a spanner is. Use of such words is an opportunity to learn a word that is common enough in the English language. Those who got brain-hurt from the word can go pop an aspirin.

Moderator: Readers, please don't get bogged down on semantics. We have readers from all English-speaking countries and we hope that readers are familiar with English terms like wrench or spanner, whether they are used in their country or not. Let's leave it at that, thanks.

womanforwomen: Quite scary.

What is really scary is all the unfounded fears you post. Is it miserable or exciting to think that everyone is out to get you?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I hope they get him quickly! Scumbag!

why did he do it? no job no future?? RIP wife and kid

Things like that happens everywhere in the world, but Greater Tokyo area seems to be the place in Japan. I'm always wondering, how usual these murder guys look on pictures. Anyway, Japan is still a safe place (compare to it's 127 million inhabitants), even safer than my country... and I live in a (kind of) safe country...

Moderator: Stay on topic please. How safe Japan is, compared to other countries, is not relevant to this particular discussion.

a guy bashes his wife's head in with a spanner/wrench, strangles his 3-year-old, fakes his own suicide and you guys are discussing semantics and the likelihood of him being able to pick up foreign women? god help us all

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Perhaps he is faking his suicide. Until 'statue of limitations' is in force he will perhaps try to keep away from public cops can lick their fingers in a mean time. He is good fabricator of his own crime. Now cops it is up to you to get him. 'IT IS LIKE CATCH ME IF YOU CAN!'

well with their recent track record this guys is away and free

I find it ironic that a man capable who killing his wife with a wrench and strangling his own defenseless toddler with his bare hands would be posing with a peace sign. and even more ironic that police would use that same image for their nationwide wanted poster.

Well, my resurrection kit is only effective in the first three hours of death. So I can't really see what I can say or do that is of much use in this case. RIP? What a jerk? Couldn't you just assume those?

Womanforwomen

It is amazing that you have such an insight to what Jladies would or would not do.(and how you presume foreign women are gullible and weak near or far from Japan)And how this guy would target foreign women....he obviously went for a Japanese woman in the first place.. so please stop writing these useless comments. This guy will be in hiding but if he is desperate he will take any opportunity open to him to survive..I think dating would be the last thing on his mind.

"if a spanner is a wrench, then why not have it say wrench? The one word is common usage, the other is not" Maybe for you Americans, but in New Zealand and Australia, and probably the UK as well, we use the word spanner, not wrench. If you told me to bring you a wrench i'd probably still bring you the wrench, but i'd be worried that i'd brought you the wrong thing. At least after reading this article i now know that a spanner is the same as a wrench, yay!

womanforwomen: first of all, I hope your 'forwomen' doesn't include me. no thanks. secondly, that comment of yours is the first stupidity I ever come across on JT.

Fingerprint and photograph all J Citizens and such guys can be found more quickly I believe. 99.9% crimes are done by J bustards like him.

The difference being, prior to reading the comments, I had no idea what a spanner was. If you had asked me for a spanner, I'd probably have brought you a screwdriver or some other long piece of metal.

Getting back to the story, I can't even imagine strangling your child like this guy evidently did. How anyone can conceive of placing their hands around the neck of an infant, and choking the life out of them, is simply beyond me.

Given the amount of time between the crime and pursuit I imagine that this guy will be caught about the same time the Hawker murder is.

European1 is right. time to fingerprint, photograph and take DNA of all Japanese. Then stop every J man and check their ID. Who knows how many unsolved crimes will be solved?

How sad we hear more of these stories too often, feel real sorry for little kid and mother. Hope they catch the father and make him pay for his crime!
