Police have announced that an investigation into a suspected case of serial arson last month has revealed that several nearby homes were also broken into during the chaos.
On Feb 22, seven fires were reported in the space of four hours in Tokyo’s Kita Ward between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., TV Asahi reported. The incidents reportedly took place within 500 meters of each other. Police say it has now come to light that two houses in the area had been ransacked, leading them to believe the fires may have been the work of a burglar.
On March 22 in Katsushika Ward, a further three suspicious fires were reported by residents. Police say that a confectionery store was ransacked and then set alight by a burglar using the same modus operandi as that used in the Kita Ward incidents. Police say they suspect the break-ins and fires are the work of the same burglar-arsonist.
