This Doesn’t seem to be about pedophile laws, but copyright and unauthorized use of a person’s likeness. As strange as it seems.
You could legally own any child pornography in Japan until a new law was enacted in 2014!
Crazier still... even today you can legally own illustrations/manga of child porn!
“The new law does not include the banning of anime and manga that feature explicit scenes of children, after lawyers and publishers argued that censoring the materials would curb free speech.”

Confused. Were they just nudes like they have in renaissance art, or were they in lewd positions? There is a difference. The former is fine even in the States- otherwise the art museums would be charged with possession of child prn, including of the statue David and the cherubs (naked baby angels).

Dear Japan,
Deal with the real matter at hand here! Child porn is illegal where ever you go! And you're just giving him a fine? Come on now! smh
HBJ
This is absolutely not fine.

Perhaps there is no difference in the people who look at such images, but there is a difference in whether children were exploited or not. If we accept that such creeps exist, is it not better that they look at computer generated images?
What I don't understand from the article is whether the real photographs that some of the images were produce from were of girls aged under 18 or not. I'm assuming the court decided they were of girls aged under 18.

Just a fine? I think this idiot should be in prison. I don't care if the images were self generated. The fact is, he used the faces of real children and this is a gateway to even worst behavior.

Child porn is child porn, regardless of its origins or which media it is presented in. They can call it art, freedom of expression or whatever kind of lame excuse they come up with. It is still mentally sick and disturbingly perverted child porn that should not be accepted and should carry severe penalties in any 'modern' society.

Yes, it is a lot when you consider that the bolded part is true.

The authorities may want to keep an eye on the people who bought this “art”?
I can’t really see the distinction between people who like to look at pictures of pre-teens in lewd poses and people who like to look at realistic, computer generated pictures of pre-teens.

Soo... I guess he had actually pornographic images of children, but that's fine? Priorities....

Hard to tell from this article, but it sounds like he Photoshopped actual pictures of naked girls.
They must indeed be pornographic if his best defense is "They weren't under 18 when I created the images".

If you mod an anime figure so that it's nude, the police often react strongly, arresting the person doing the modifications. I guess if there's a complaint by a copyright holder whose proper will be harmed, that's the line that can't be crossed.

Sounds like the key issue legal dispute revolved purely around whether the images were based on actual photos. In other words, if he had made his "art" solely from the imagination, it would have been perfectly legal. Japan's legal system totally missing the point yet again.

No jail time!?

Some people have no bar for how low they are willing to go.
