An assistant police inspector in Tottori Prefecture has been arrested for trespassing on the balcony of a woman's apartment.
According to police, the assistant inspector has been named as 40-year-old Masaki Anyoji, a member of the Tottori prefectural police. TBS quoted a police spokesman as saying an investigation was launched after an intruder was seen jumping from a second floor balcony of an apartment belonging to a woman in her 30s at around 2 a.m. on July 15. The intruder fell to the ground roughly 5 meters below and is thought to have been injured.
Investigators checked clinics and hospitals for injuries among men fitting the description and found that Anyoji had been admitted to hospital shortly after the incident, having fractured his lumbar vertebrae. Police questioned Anyoji over his whereabouts at the time of the incident and later arrested him, TBS said.
Anyoji so far denies the charge and claims to have injured his back falling down the stairs at his home, police said.

You must be new to Japan. Evidence is largely irrelevant, the confession means everything. Often even when the evidence contradicts the confession.
If he confesses it'll be seen as a sign of repentance and he'll probably keep his job with a slap on the wrist like reduced pay for a few months, and he'll apologise and no charges will be bought.
If he doesn't confess he'll be fired, charges will be filed, and because of the buddy-buddy relationship between the public prosecutors, then police and the judge he'll be found guilty.
... so even if he just fractures his lumbar vertebrae falling down some stairs and was never anywhere near her apartment he's better off confessing. Sad, but true. What's even sadder is that if he is guilty he's going to get off with a slap on the wrist.

Just going on a balcony does not make you any criminal... Thousands of people do that in my country for many reasons and mostly for challenge or silliness. Don't see perv each time you mention the word 'woman', although Japanese women are so cute.

Surely going onto someone else's balcony is trespassing, whether for perverted or other reasons, and is certainly a crime.
A 40-year-old cop at two in the morning, if it was indeed him, could hardly plead "challenge" or "silliness" as a viable excuse for being on the woman's balcony. And neither of those reasons would carry much weight with the police or prosecutors if a non-cop were caught in the act, either.
