Police in Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture, said Sunday they have arrested a 48-year-old truck driver over the hit-and-run death of a 76-year-old man.
According to police, Toshihiko Tsukamoto was hit by a truck as he crossed the street at an intersection at around 6 a.m. Sunday, NTV reported. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police said street surveillance camera footage led them to the suspect, Yoichi Kamata, a truck driver who lives in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture.

Yes Trucks run red lights, but ojiisan have a tendency of just crossing the road, or take ages, or just don't check for traffic (most people here in Japan seem to ignore this survival principle).

I'm sure he flashed his hazards just before mowing him down as is the case when truck drivers notoriously run red lights. Bad day for all involved.

Why try and run? CCTV is every where.
Jail time if you run, straight out the gate.
