TV presenter Mino Monta's son arrested for attempted theft

Police said Wednesday they have arrested the eldest son of record-breaking television presenter Mino Monta for attempted theft after he allegedly tried to use a stolen cash card.

According to police, 31-year-old Yuto Minorikawa, was arrested after he was filmed by a CCTV camera at a Minato Ward convenience store ATM at around 1 a.m. on Aug 13 trying to withdraw cash using a stolen bank card, NHK reported. Police say the card had been stolen from a drunken office worker in his 40s while he was asleep in the street.

Minorikawa works for the NTV network.

How long until Mino Monta himself holds a press conference to apologize and do a few deep bows.

How often do we see the kids of the rich and the famous go off the rails?

Too much money, not often attention from Dad while he was busy performing live on TV, eight hours a day, seven days a week.

The chickens come home to roost.

He was conspicuously absent from his TBS show this morning, wish I had seen the start at 5.30 to see what if anything they said about it.

Anyway I hope he falls. His everyday behavior on set is just stupid at times.

Very classy.... What gives?...The family must be absolutely loaded ,,,why steal some poor drunk,s credit card? Fool.

Because he can. These fools think they are above everyone, and the sad fact is that he may be right. His celebrity status will earn him a slap on the wrist, and he'll be back at work the next week. He'll make a public apology, take a deep bow in front of a bunch of cameras, and life for him will continue as if nothing ever happened.

Readers, please note this story is about Mino Monta's son.

Wonder if this will end up like the case in which a drunk Kabuki actor walked into a bar in Roppongi, started a fight, and his victim ended up with a two-year jail term for fighting back. In other words, the drunk who lost his credit card will end up being blamed for causing Yuto Minorikawa to commit a crime ... and the drunk will end up doing jail time for doing so. Meanwhile, like the Kabuki actor, Yuto Minorikawa will walk away a free man and continue his trek toward fame.

Mino Monta wasn't on tv today because he is utterly shamed by the acts of his son. He lost a lot of face for this. The son will most likely be taken aside and explained to for a length period of time how much of a dumb move that was for his family and how much face was lost. He will have to do something like an apology, but he isn't famous enough for people to really care about him. I am sure Mino will make it clear that if the son interferes in his tv career, he won't hesitate to cut off ties. Face is too valuable in Japan. More valuable than family ties at times.

This story will blow over and be forgotten in a few weeks.

Like father, like son.

How so? When was Mino Monta arrested for attempted theft?

The guy is pretty brainless. Video shows him repeatedly sticking the card into the machine. He thought he could actually just guess the guy's password. Pretty brainless.

So you prefer the American way of blaming everybody and everything else but never themselves ?

not sure what your problem is

No, I prefer the common sense and logical way - blame the actual criminal.

Here comes the street-side press conference and apology:

I remember the tearful apology from the Italian singer (can't remember her name. Was it Rosanna?) when her son was naughty. Besides, half these apologies (just like apologies from politicians) look so damn fake. So glad Rola didn't have to go into hiding because of what her father did.

@Pukey2

Part of Japanese culture is to apologize when it's necessary, including when your familiar members do something wrong. Are you trying to change the entire Japanese culture ? Good luck

Hide Suzuki, why did you even question what DudeDeuce had to say? When do Americans blame everybody else? Regarding culture, we know about it. So just sit back down.
