A pair of little punks! 3rd grade junior high? I live and teach at a private high school around this area. I’m curious which high school they go to. I’m guessing it is one the public daycare zoo schools.

But these little pr***s will walk away with a smirk after their fake apology and their parents pay off the victim put them in juvenile for a couple of years

As I have said so many times before but I always get shouted down by people on this forum, in Japan money is the answer to everything, it makes any problem disappear. The victim should tell them to stick their money where the sun don't shine and they should do some time...but, of course, she won't.

A few months ago my stepdaughter has her bag stolen while riding her bike home. They caught the punk that do it and he confessed to over 40 other similar thefts. She was offered a ridiculous sum of ¥20,000 in compensation to keep this thief out of prison. Of course I told her to refuse. A few weeks later the offer was upped to ¥100,000, which she accepted. However, it meant this third was never formally charged with the thefts. It’s easy to fiddle crime rate statistics when you keep people out of the courts by paying off the victims.

"Sho got that right". And after the victim is compensated she will drop the charges and the crime rate in the area will go down because it never happened

the title is a bit misleading. i would hardly consider hitting someone on the buttocks a "beating."

and two 15 year-olds couldn't wrestle away a purse from a woman who is almost 60? either this is wonder woman or these punks really weren't trying that hard to steal.

Ridiculous, these fools do not deserve to rot away in prison for thier ridiculous attempt. I'm much more afraid of the comments about this article than these two 15 year old children.

And once again nothing will come of it, save an absolutely insincere apology, a very frustrated (and rightly so) woman, and parents paying her off.

We certainly aren't going to see any proof of them charged -- we never do -- and especially not as adults.

The boys need an old fashion ass whippin and do 100 hours commumity service at an elderly care center!

We all know they deserve a stiff jail sentence and their parents probably the same, but they won’t get it. A few thousand yen will be paid out and they will all carry on as if nothing happened

@Reckless - Conviction? The victim gets paid not to press charges, and the criminals aren't even indicted.

Point 1: I dont know where all these amateur-judges pop up from. Japan is one of the strictest in the world in terms of prosecution percentage, time held without legal counsel, and jail conditions.

Point 2: Image if your son got caught doing this and it was his first crime. Would you want him thrown into jail like most of the posters here are crying about? Nope. Common sense would say let the cops scare him to death, pay a penalty to the victim, then give him a beating when he gets home.

Point 3: If the legal constitution states that punishment for a crime can be paying monetary compensation to the victim, then the law is there. As one poster said earlier, his daughter had a choice of accepting Y100,000 or taking them to court. At least she earned Y100,000 in compensation.

A few weeks ago there was news of a JHS teacher hitting or spitting at one of his students or something, and majority of the comments were against the teacher and what he did. And now a lot of the comments are against the two JHS punks. News flash, these are the SAME type of jokers populating or once in a while populating JHS schools like the one that teacher was working in.

So which is it? Reprimand these punks-future criminals? Or reprimand the people trying to make a difference?

That being said, the punishment won't fit the crime here. They need to have losers like these perform community service. Put them in orange coveralls and have them clean the streets for a few weekends in front of their family and friends. Maybe they'd grow up from the embarrassment.

yeah, crime in japan is so low because EVERYONE is getting paid not to press charges. you talking heads really need to prove this with any type of statistic/newspaper article instead of just ignorantly repeating what the other talking head says.

My ex used to live in Nagareyama... and I know how dark those streets are... very poorly lit so little neds on bikes can lurk in total darkness for some unfortunate passer-by.

These little pieces of sh*t should be forced apologise to the woman in front of their entire school... with TV cameras present. I don't believe that child villains should have anonymity... they aren't innocent little cherubs who went off the rails one time... they knew what they were doing.

A bit of public humiliation won't go a miss here, tell all of the neighbourhood what they have done by posting a poster on a screen in the local streets this will do several thing tell people who the local scum are, and to watch out for them, and may be they will be so embarrassed that they might keep a low profile for some time

Yes, she got paid not to press charges, as did the other 40 victims of this thief. A police report was made, a police interrogation was made, a negotiation was made between the victims and the thief’s lawyer resulting in a cash settlement and no conviction was made, nor was the thief locked up for any longer than it took to pay off the victims. = Low crime rate statistics.

I am not a teacher, but surely there are better ways of “making a difference.” Spitting in a student’s face and some 80 times is not one of them. That teacher deserves to be condemned.

These are separate incidents though. I fail to see how not condemning the students in the first case - student(s) who got their faces spat on - disqualifies you from condemning the students in the second, the case of the bat to the butt.
