Condoms can fail. She may have lied and said she was on the pill. She may have been on the pill but messed up her schedule. Some practices can cause pregnancy even though people stupidly think they won't. My opinion of sex ed is that its a joke. And its a joke because of stupid, backward, squeamish parents and other chuckle heads running society who either think it isn't important, its silly, or think ignorance and/or fear is an effective deterrent to human nature.

It's her fault. She needs to be punished. 6 Years in Jail. And her friend, 4 Years.

Still they can start fresh life with some valuable lesson.

Moreover, he went for an underage girl. I have quite a lot difficulties understanding how that is a date worth of your money.

Why are there people assuming she was a prostitute ? She went on a paid date. Meaning, she was an escort. No obligation to have sex, depend of the contract. There is a possibility she was raped.

Has pointed by several, nobody know if she give birth to a living baby or not. We do not know if she had any knowledge of her pregnancy.

There is lot of things let unknown, so I do not see the point in bashing the girl and her friend so much or pushing blame on the family/teacher/... moreover when letting everything slide for the man.

"16 is over the age of consent", only when both parties are young teenagers. Where the other is older it enters the realm of child sex abuse. Age differential matters.

It's true that mitigating circumstances like her young age and a what looks like a difficult social background should be taken in to consideration by the court but she still dumped (murdered ?) her infant child and should be punished accordingly and her friend should be charged for being an accessory.

The mother could have turned to social services or given up the child for adoption instead of coldly dumping the body in a bag somewhere and take off.

It's not the girl isn't responsible for her actions, she is. However, she is a symptom, not the true problem, in a culture where drinking with club ladies is a norm, prostitution and sexual service is ubiquitous and communication between parents and particularly fathers, who often do not have strong relationships with their daughters, and a lack of love goes in both directions. All those things and more lead to the so called enjokosai that occurs.

There's a whole lot more here than just a kid who murdered her just born child and abandoning the body in a river and she needs help to figure out how to make herself a better person and hopefully becomes an adult who can contribute to society and live a good life which is surely going to be very difficult to do, especially if there is only guilt thrown at her by others, who have no idea what exactly happened nor why. She needs to be heard out, and then depending on her attitude and reasoning, get help or find out if she is truly a terrible person, who's actions were less about hubris and ignorance and more about being evil. Professionals should make decisions on how to handle her case and deal with her future, only after they understand what happened.

How is it misleading? He stated the baby will be naturally ejected soon after the baby dies. Isn’t that what this article states? It states “within three weeks”. That does not mean it is not bien straight away.

At 17 a girl should be focused on school and all the other little things teenagers do and maybe a part time job at the local convenient store or restaurant for some spending cash, getting ready for when she has to support herself.  Not taking the easy way and selling her body to strangers. Yes. You are right. A boy most likely would not have received the same amount of sympathy. But there are stark differences between the two. If a man goes through a pregnancy with a woman, he isn’t alone. If a woman’s family, friends, and the father abandons a woman, she would have to go through her pregnancy alone. Also, it’s much easier for a man to walk away than it is for a woman.

When it comes to having a baby, especially early, the woman is heavily affected either way. Abortions come with risks to the body and going through a pregnancy changes you. While there are men who just walk away as if it doesn’t concern them at all.

Because we don't know the full circumstances and something in the equation sounds very wrong.

No no, that's now how that works at all. Unfortunately full-term babies are still-born all the time, for any number of reasons. The birthing process itself can kill them as well. Not to mention that a baby can die while inside the mother and not ever be 'ejected'.

One of the biggest issues right now in Japan is that there are many companies that allow Junior and High School aged girls to get paid for "taking walks" and "having coffee" with older business men. These companies are a front for child prostitution. There is absolutely no reason a man should desire to be alone with an underaged woman.
