Two boys detained for snatching bags from women

Police in Tokyo said Friday they have detained two junior high school boys for allegedly snatching bags from women during a 4-hour spree in Hachioji on Oct 15.

According to a report on Fuji TV, the boys, aged 14 and 15, rode a bicycle and would come up behind women and snatch their handbags. Police said they did this to three women between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Oct 15.

Two of the victims were women aged 61 and 70. In the third case, the boys tried to grab the bag from a 24-year-old woman. The woman held on and fell down, twisting her leg, Fuji TV reported.

Police quoted the boys as saying they wanted the money to go to Tokyo Disneyland. They stole 18,000 yen from the first two women, police said.

Because they are minors, nothing will happen to them.

Sure they are minors, but hopefully their parents, schools, etc..will have them on some kind of list, not saying a black list but a YELLOW CARD LIST, I am sure the Hachioji police must have something like this, now these punks are doing this at age what?? 14 and 15?? I do not want to imagine what these 2 fools would do when they get older and happen to make friends with the yakuza etc..get recruited and start doing worse crimes.

Hopefully their parents have already beat some sense into them. And I'm sure they were made to apologize to the victims. But because they are minors, I don't think the police are allowed to release their names to schools, etc.

The should close down Tokyo DisneyLand.

I wonder how long the two boys have been dating. The Disneyland trip must be an anniversary trip.

I just can't believe kids who just want to go to TDL would commit such a crime.

"I wonder how long the two boys have been dating" Well, maybe these kids are homodachi rather than tomodachi.

Let them go to Tokyo Disneyland....to sweep up trash for a week!

They needed the money to go to Tokyo Disneyland and snatch more purses with a bigger haul! Once a criminal, always a criminal!

They must have seen it on tv or in a comic book ;)

Detained...? Oh, I forgot they're not 60 years old yet, so they are treated as minors in Japan... "Boys will be boys...Oh, it's ok.... Just promise you won't do it anymore, or we'll have to tell your mothers!"

Haha..............18,000 yen isn't even enough money to have a good day at TDL or TDS between two people. They would have done better to GET A JOB!

Do you condone Violence against children ?

Once a criminal, always a criminal!

Incorrect , people can change and often because young people have done stupid things does not mean they will go onto to a life of crime.

Barrister, totally disagree, was one when i was a teen (which me and my friends got the ideas fron movies, music.. yes neh sayers, there are people like me and i always post from personal experience unlike.... uhmm). Anyway, That all ended when i became an adult at 18 in canada and criminal record sticks. But then again, i c where ur going, we can falter here and there even if it is as small as stealing an umbrella or a pen from the office, it is still stealing right? And those who have never stolen anything small prob wont in the future...soo, it

if they cant be named lets have their folks names. that should harden up the parents

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

They should be tied up on display at the scene of their crimes with a big sign hung from around their neck - on their chest "I'm a Dickhead bag snatcher" - for 30 days!

Farmboy, I know Hachioji like the back of my hand and do not ask me why but I even know some of these so called yakuza, not exactly the brightest tools in the shed, so fools like this will do for them, IMHO.

Do you condone Violence against children ?

Your violence = my discipline and in cases like this yes, I do.....

Do I have to explain? "Beat some sense into them" was used as an idiom to emphasize the need for discipline. Do you like trying to make yourself look good in a public forum?

This looks like old news.

@Elbuda - agree with you but the schools arent allowed to expel them, and any little 14/15 year olds running around snatching bags in the first place dont strike me as coming from parents who really give a monkeys.

In short - nothing will be done. Watch this space for the future once they have moved on to bigger things.

14-15 year old boys are old enough to know right from wrong. You can't really blame the parents for this one. Those boys chose to do something hurtful and harmful for money. I hope they pay for what they did.

"brightest tools in the shed??'.... i think you mean... "Sharpest tools in the shed!... you qualify!
