Two men arrested over assault, robbery of elderly woman

Kanagawa prefectural police have arrested two men on suspicion of assault and robbery after they broke into the home of a woman in her 80s, seriously injured her and stole about 250,000 yen in cash, in January.

According to police, Akiyoshi Hashizume, 26, an unemployed man from Toyama Prefecture, and his 19-year-old accomplice from Kanagawa Prefecture, who cannot be named because he is a minor, broke into the victim’s home in Ayase City at around 12:40 a.m. on Jan 11, Sankei Shimbun reported.

The two woke the woman and threatened her at knifepoint, demanding she hand over cash. The suspects then tied her hands and feet with adhesive tape and made off with roughly 250,000 yen. The victim sustained a chest injury that required two months to recover from, police said.

Police said that surveillance footage captured three men near the crime scene, and are currently looking for the third man. The two suspects were arrested on Monday.

Police said that Hashizume has remained silent. His accomplice, however, has admitted to breaking into the woman’s residence but denies injuring her.

No excuse for this crime!

However, the present economic situation will certainly steer others to prey on the weaker in society.

There’s still one on the loose. The 19 year old is talking. Since he’s a minor offer him a lesser offense and probation in exchange for testifying against the other two scumbags. At least get two of them in prison. Hopefully he’ll have learned his lesson. If not, he’ll be joining his friends soon enough.

Two Japanese men robbed a senior citizen? That's not good. Terrible crime. Why would the do this? Seems like they targeted a weaker person who cannot fight back. Terrible to hear this kind of thing happens in Japan.
