Two men beaten, robbed by gang in separate incidents in Sagamihara

Two men were beaten and robbed by a gang in separate incidents in Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture, on Sunday morning.

According to police, the first incident occurred at around 4:30 a.m. in Midori Ward, Fuji TV reported. A 20-year-old university student told police he was walking home when he was attacked from behind by three men who beat him with sticks and stole his bag containing about 20,000 yen and other items. Police said he suffered minor injuries.

In the second incident that occurred 40 minutes later about two kilometers away, a 59-year-old man who was walking along a street was attacked. He told police three or four men hit him with what looked like bats and stole his wallet containing 25,000 yen. He suffered a broken bone in his left hand while trying to defend himself.

Police said they are examining street surveillance camera footage to try and identify the gang.

A rarity for Japan. I hope they find them soon.

Never a comforting to read articles like this but I'm glad it was reported. In my humble opinion, Japanese cops should increase their public visibility even there's the constant presence of cameras. The presence of a live law enforcement officer carries more weight than the cold lens of a camera looking at you.

Used to live in Sagamihara. For the most part populated by regular decent folks, of course, but also rife with uyoku, bosozoku, and other riffraff. Not terribly to imagine this happening there, unfortunately.

Not as rare as you may think. Just because you dont read it in news here, it happens a hell of a lot more than people are aware of. You will also almost NEVER read about the beatings that occur among younger kids unless it is especially horrific and leads to someone dying, but it happens a lot too!

"first incident occurred at around 4:30 a.m"

"the second incident that occurred 40 minutes later about two kilometers away,"

Probably as discussed on other websites, i.e tokyoreporter ... the growing meth problem increases , expect to see more robberies

No coincidence these types of crimes seem to be increasing lately.

Sign of the times.
