I thought that the police weren't allowed to give chase for this exact reason.

Was that necessary?

(Robert-- I think there are rules like that in US and others but not here)

In the US it depends on the agency.

they simply should have stopped.....the 2 getting chased that is NOT the police. The fact they decided to hightail it and try to outrun the police was their choice. We could be reading an even more tragic story about how the car ploughed into a family van killing the family as well...but luckily we aren't.

These bums crawl/race the streets late at night in every Japanese city. Osaka is probably the worst with the bosozuku running around. Typical... either two dudes and two dudes did the macho man thing, usually over skank and at your dump izakaya or the four were drinking together. I have no sympathy for this breed in Japan as with the Yaks. Live hard you die hard.

RobertCB: My thoughts exactly too. I wonder if rules have changed. And as ratpack mentions, the bigger reason J-cops supposedly don't do car chases is the endangerment of innocent by-standers.

Are you kidding me? You obviously haven't seen all those reality shows in the US that air non-stop police car chases. I also remember staying in LA years ago and seeing on the TV "Breaking News!! Car chase on the xxxx freeway!" practically every day I was there.

my2sense: Where does it say that bosozoku were involved?

Fighting in the parking lot of a restaurant at 2:15AM? They could have been drunks. You don't have to be bosozoku to be a little "rough around the edges". Just saying.

I know that mate... I meant for late night gang banging in Osaka- they lead the pack car racing too after midnight. There is only so much point you can make writing a comment on the Internet and be misunderstood.

That was a short chase with a quick tragic ending.

And here we have our last two Darwing Award Winners... these chimpira had their last night out yesterday. It is rare that the crooks do not simply outrun the police in Japan though...

I thought it was a bit odd, but then I also know that paramedics are not really paramedics here and are qualified to do little else but drive the ambulance and/or secure the patient in the back. I don't believe they are allowed to officially call deaths except in extreme cases, and have to haul them to the ambulance where a certified doctor does so. That is possible in this case. You very often hear 'pronounced dead at hospital'.

Anyway, it's a shame what happened, and I wish the two guys hadn't tried to outrun the cops.
