Two Russian women arrested for not paying taxi fare, assaulting driver

Police said Tuesday they have arrested two Russian women for refusing to pay their taxi fare and then assaulting the driver after he chased them in Tokyo.

Fuji TV reported that the two women -- in their 30s -- got into the taxi on Monday afternoon in the Hiroo area and asked to be taken to Roppongi. Police said that when they arrived in Roppongi, they got out of the taxi without paying the 1,500 yen fare. The driver ran after them at which point one of the women hit him about 10 times with an umbrella. Police officers, who were nearby, apprehended the women.

The two women have denied the charges, police said.

Japanese press concerning Russia is always lying. They were with 2 kids, one of them sick. Temperature 40 deg. And driver was taking an expensive route.

Hey, it's an expensive country. If they can't afford it, there are plenty of cheaper ones.

Hey, he's been living and working here for over 30 years ))) He knows What Country it is much better than you )))))

Any person who regularly takes a taxi knows that prices can vary a lot. And really don´t see that the price has anything to do with running away from the bill and then physically attacking a driver. Unless he was asking to be paid with sexual services. But since the article mentions none of that stuff, then its pointless to try to read a lot of stuff in the article that just isn´t there. Physical assault is totally unacceptable. In case the girls didn´t like the price, they could have filed a complaint.

embarrassing really, why they were acting like this ?

@Chin4Sailor

"It's really fascinating how many people really believe chasing someone for 1500-yen is a good idea"

Oh that's right, we should all let them get away whenever someone tries to run away without paying. Then more and more people will try it in the future dummy LOL

When will you ever learn what we call common sense ?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I dont know the truth of this, but I have noticed in recent years more and more taxi drivers will try and rip me off if they can get away with it. Never used to happen years ago.

Someone please tell me... It's really fascinating how many people really believe chasing someone for 1500-yen is a good idea... LOL...

I would chase someone for stealing $16 from me.

Brilliant! Let's just run someone (potentially dangerous) for 1500-yen... And you wonder why these people get hurt... Lucky he wasn't seriously injured or killed... I have to ask... Where do you learn this mentality of throwing "common-sense" to the wind..? Someone please tell me... It's really fascinating how many people really believe chasing someone for 1500-yen is a good idea... LOL...

i've seen NYC cabbies chased down someone for less than that.

I see no problem with it.

They had no money or they just thought it fair to stiff the cabbie? Either way they were wrong.

try to drive from Hiroo to Roppongi - it is a basic fee, 710-790 at max. You need a skill to make it 1500 yen...

Japanese press concerning Russia is always lying. They were with 2 kids, one of them sick. Temperature 40 deg. And driver was taking an expensive route. They are married and I hate all this bullshit about Russia.

Now Japan will never get the Northern Territories back.

Dasvidania girls! Once you have served your prison sentences, on your way to Narita airport with the immigration guys driving you for deportation, think about this: was it worth It?

For 1500 yen, you lost your visas, you got jailed, and now you are being deported. Think again.Good riddance.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

This story is like beginning of some comic movie, even Bruce Lee would not fight back if two ladies attack him with umbrella.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Beaten up by girls? The taxi driver will never live this down!

have you seen some of these russian babushkas?

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

It always comes across more disrespectful and arrogant if you commit a crime in another country, blatantly in this case. Will this be store on the systems for the next time they show their passport at visa control?

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

I am glad they got caught. I think that even if you don't like the price of the service, you still have to pay. Take it as a lesson learned...Taxis can be expensive and should only be used when necessairy.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Perhaps they took lessons from the Japanese guy who did this last week was it?

-8 ( +3 / -11 )

Those girls are so stupid. The two girls who skipped out on me when I was a cab driver winked and smiled and said they were just going into to get their money and would be right out . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. .

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

thats why Russian ladies were awesome!

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Maybe these girls were late for minyet time?

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Cabbies ask, "which way", as you may have a preferred route. For example, when I am drunk late at night Id prefer not traveling the twisty turny back routes to avoid traffic - and I tell them so, keeps the cab cleaner. These "ladies" couldve caught the cab closer to Ebisu or just going the wrong way and the cabbie wouldve had to turn and wait at lights to head towards the Pong. The fare seems high but not impossible. Lets pretend the ladies had a dispute over the amount - they shouldve gone to the police themselves or paid a ¥1,000 and walked. Ive been living in Tokyo for over a dozen years, taking cabs many times weekly and have only had problems 3-4 times. Mostly geographically-challenged oyagis who get discombobulated because they are from Saitama. Once I had a rude guy but all-in-all they are decent if not great. (Try KM or MK) Anyway, most cabs have video cameras which will prove the drivers point of view so they will now face a lot of legal problems for what couldve been a fare of ¥750 per person. Pretty stupid judgement call on their parts.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

It is not 1500 yen from Hiroo to Roppongi - 800 max. Strange. I think the true is somewhere in the middle, as usual. Please, friends, this is not about Russians or someone else. Did you noticed in japanese taxis, when you are entering it, and saying to a driver the place you would like to go, they always ask you how to go there as if they are checking wherethere you know the way to go or not. How do I know the shortest way? It could be the case.

-5 ( +4 / -9 )

Disgrace. Are they trying to play Puting game with the taxi driver?

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Sigh, that's one more taxi driver who won't stop to pick me up (or any foreigner up) from now on. Though I do suspect that this may have been a dispute over the cost of the fare? 1500 yen from Roppongi to Hiroo seems like a lot, and maybe the ladies were upset because they felt they were being ripped off?

1 ( +8 / -7 )

Good on the cabbie! These two thought they could get away with ditching the cab fare. Hopefully they'll be deported.

1 ( +8 / -7 )

@Jim Poushinsky Their side of the story is that they were beating a cab driver who was chasing them for not paying their cab fare and are now arrested. It mentions that police officers were nearby and apprehended them so I think it's pretty open and shut.

-1 ( +7 / -8 )

Russian women are among the toughest in the world. Anyone who has travelled on Russian planes or trains knows that! They are the equal of men and don't stand for any male chauvinist disrespect. I wonder what their side of this story is?

-1 ( +7 / -8 )

Actually, 1,500 yen from Hiroo to Roppongi is not impossible, considering that it was the afternoon. There could have been heavy traffic, roadworks, who knows? The point is, you cannot refuse to pay the fare just because you think it is excessive. I've felt that way many times. You just have to put up with it or get out and walk or take the subway.

Refusing to pay the fare is illegal. The women were in the wrong.

7 ( +15 / -8 )

Hiroo to Roppongi "1,500yen" is way too excessive.... For some reason, taxi drivers here don't seem to have a clue how to get around. Firstly, they will often ask the passenger for directions to get to the destination. If that fails, they will try to fumble with the car-navigation system. The Russian women must have felt that he was trying to rip them off. Let's hear both sides of the story before judging.

-1 ( +12 / -13 )

Not off topic.. the women are falsely accused!

Hiro to Roppongi 1500Y is way too much cost!

The driver should get more beating than 10 times with umbrella!

Lately Tokyo taxi drivers will do anything to get higher meter, at least half of the times I have taken taxi lately you gotta watch where he goes or they will blatantly loop or take the long way...once caught its mostly suimasen and cut pay but I ve seen the other side of a coin too and had to threaten police.

Whoa! How the heck does one run up a 1,500 yen fare from Hiroo to Roppongi? The two districts are contiguous (walking distance between them). The fare should have been the basic 710 yen, or maybe 800 at the most. I can't imagine it costing 1,500 yen, even with the surcharge after 10:00 pm.

-2 ( +10 / -12 )

they were broke... Too many broke women wanting high life they can't even afford....

-6 ( +6 / -12 )

they must have been drunk on wodka to have done something so stupid.

-10 ( +3 / -13 )

No mugshots?

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

Let the JCops worry about it...

That would be well and good - IF the JCops didn't have such a bad reputation already...

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

This article got me laughing imagining the taxi driver running down the street chasing two Russian girls. LOL

-1 ( +7 / -8 )

The driver ran after them at which point one of the women hit him about 10 times

Silly Rabbit... If they Don't Pay, You Call the Cops... PERIOD! You don't try and pull some, "I'm A Hero" stuff, that's how you get hurt... Call the cops, and you've satisfied your Insurance Requirement... Your Money's Insured!

This is how people get maimed or killed... They go running after some crazy guy (or women) and only bad things happen after that... Nothing good ever happens... Let the JCops worry about it...

Another Common-Sense Lesson!

bad losers...

embarrasing... ><

2 ( +9 / -7 )

This is becoming a trend now. Hiro to Roppongi? Why not take a train if you don't want to pay? Its like the next station!

are these women here on 'entertainment' visa ?
