Police are looking for two persons who threw a bicycle onto the train tracks of the JR Kagoshima line between Tosu station and Hizen-asahi station in Tosu City on Sunday. The incident occurred at around 6:30 p.m.

Police said the driver of the local train saw the act and immediately applied the emergency break, but was too late, and hit the bicycle. No injuries were reported and the train was stopped for about 15 minutes while a clean-up crew removed the bike's pieces.

According to police, the train conductor reported that one of the two perpetrators was a man who looked to be in his 50s. The age and gender of the other person is unknown.

Perhaps just another person in Japan not knowing how to vent properly. People have to learn to get some friends, lay back and chill every once in a while.

It's as stupid as those people who think stealing Stop signs is fun without thinking twice as to what will ultimately happen...a fatal wreck.

What on EARTH would be the purpose of this? I have no idea. Short of wanting to cause harm or destruction of property. [head tilt] Yeah, I've got nothing.

Copy Cat coming to a train line near you. 15 mins to move a bike. How many meetings did they have to have to decide which person would pick it up. So efficient.

they toss bicycles on tracks in Tosu city

Oh. and his family would have paid the damages.

Oh Statistician. Ya RLY. You so much miss the obvious. If he had thrown himself on the tracks, we would not have to worry about him doing it again, you see.

Idiots.

I hope the driver got out and slapped him up, ripped his shirt.

hehe you mean that dude in the trash truck?

Since when was 50 considered geriatric? If you believe that, some of you are in for a very short productive life! Try 90, and I'll bet some 90 year old will protest!

You'd think in high-tech Japan they'd install video cameras on the trains looking ahead of the train. If they had then they could've released an image of the two "persons" wanted for questioning.

Ok, I know the outcome could have been a lot worse, and I'm glad no-one was injured. But doesn't the image of a man in his 50s (possibly two of them) committing this act crack you up?! I've been laughing about this off and on all day!! I wonder how many gray haired oyajis around my office fantasize about doing this kind of thing.

smartacus: "I wonder how those two idiots would feel if they had caused a fatal train wreck."

It's my guess that that's what the people had in mind. I mean, if not, and the thought never crossed their minds that it might happen, they're even stupider than it seems.

Statistician: Actually, it IS a lot worse than a person jumping in front of the train. It's entirely possible that a bicycle -- especially one of those heavy-duty electric mama-charis -- could derail the train and cause utter chaos. In this instant, and probably due to the driver's quick notice, it became merely a minor delay and clean up. As such these people committed a malicious act that could have had a FAR worse result, and hence the 'worse' part. A suicide is selfish as hell and a MAJOR pain in the butt for commuters, but we are talking about a crime here.

Kids putting pennies or pebbles on tracks is something common around the world, yes (sadly), but throwing a bicycle directly in front of an oncoming train? Nope.

@Klein2

This is so much worse than, say jumping on the tracks himself.

Not really. The train would have been delayed longer while the police completed their 'scene of fatality' reports.

Teenager pranks - happens all the time all around the world (but not often in Japan!). But a guy in his 50's - really unusual.

Hang em high. I dont care what problems he thinks he has, nobody deserves to be injured because of this guy.

Find him, have him pay restitution. If he doesnt, debtor's prison. This is so much worse than, say jumping on the tracks himself.
