Police on Wednesday said that two teenagers had allegedly killed eight swans at a park lake in Mito City, Ibaraki Prefecture, on April 28. According to police, the two boys, aged 15 and 13, beat the swans to death with wooden sticks at the park from 1 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. on April 28.
Papers on the 15-year-old boy have been sent to prosecutors, while the 13-year-old boy -- who cannot be prosecuted because he is too young -- was reported to a child consultation center.
The two were quoted by police as saying, “It was fun to kill the swans, especially when they tried to swim away."

I wonder what sort of parents these kids have. They are out in a park at 1 a.m. killing swans. Without knowing their family background, I'll take a wild guess and say these kids are like many of today's youths -- they have grown up without being able to do anything with their fathers who slave away at their jobs. As a result, when they become teens, they neither respect or want anything to do with their parents.
Of course, it's pure conjecture. They might have come from a loving family. Still, it must be hard being the parent of a teenager.

They must have compared it with a video game!

Little punks deserve a thorough baseball-batting.

This being Japan, I think an appropriate punishment would be to put a few signs around the park lake apologizing for the fact that there are no more swans for people to enjoy watching because _____-san and __-san's sons decided to go on a killing spree.
Perhaps a family photo along with the sign (with the children's faces blotted out, naturally) would be a nice touch as well.

what scares me is that those 2 kids will be out in the wild in no time, and as some researches showed worldwide, kids enjoying with great pleasure killing animals are high risk people when then turn adult for everybody s safety !! if they do not have a psychological treatment for the next 10 years, we have here 2 potential serial killers !... and not just kill, but torture seems to be there enjoyment too ! “It was fun to kill the swans, especially when they tried to swim away.” scary !!!

Hello future serial killers.

Taka's idea is excellent. Similar to tagging known pedophiles in the states. Everybody should know who these two are and whose family they are from. Let the community's disdain for their lack of parenting be their punishment.

These boys should be commended for being able to kill 8 swans in an hour and a half. Do you know how hard it is to kill swans with wooden sticks, in the dark? I don't either, but I imagine it is incredibly difficult. "Especially when they tried to swim away"
Seriously, though... What the hell is wrong with these kids? And their parents? Who lets a 13 year old out after 12:00AM?
cleo
I also think Taka's idea is a good one.
Useless little no-good punks. A waste of space who will probably grow up to get their kicks beating up homeless old men.
It is hard being the parent of a teenager. Probably harder still if they haven't been drug up proper as kids. How on earth does anyone reach the age of 13 years thinking it's not only OK but fun to wander around in a park after midnight, killing beautiful birds?
Two more candidates who need to have their IQs raised via a full brain transplant. Or more likely an implant, since they don't seem to have a full brain to start off with.

the parents should be beaten with wooden sticks, firstly for raising such monsters and secondly for allowing them out until 3am. and no, you cant defend the parents in this case.

The reference to these kids being potential future serial killers is a very good one. People who can torture animals without conscious can just as easily turn their attentions to humans.

It's just a shame that the swans weren't with their young, (too early in the season), as I understand that parent birds can be extremely aggressive and can break a man's thigh with their wings. My suggestion is that these boys be put in a pen with a large, angry cob and its cygnets and that the police film them being savaged by the bird until they are unconscious. This method was used with dogs that attacked sheep. The dogs were placed in a pen with a ram, which proceeded to batter them up and down the place. The dogs never approached a sheep again!

Well picked up on by some of the above posters that many notorious serial killers showed these kinds of tendencies as teens. They started getting their "thrill to kill" buzz with animals before turning to people. Lets hope the authorities keep close tabs on these little monsters.
Taka313
In my time living in Japan, I have, through my experiences and reading, come to the conclusion that shame, or better yet, avoiding shame, is one hell of a motivator within Japanese society. Hence the suggestion. I don't advocate putting the boys in the stocks or placing them in a hole. I advocate letting people know whose little boys were out killing swan at 1 a.m., when they should have been at home and in bed.
Big difference.

These two little freaks admit they enjoyed killing the birds as they were trying to get away. The dirty little snotrags didn't just 'kill a few birds'; they deliberately and gleefully caused untold suffering to creatures that had done them no harm.

Cleo - "dirty little snotrags"
I have this feeling you were being polite! Can't argue with that description, though.

This is just disappointing. Parent's are completely to blame, and the children should get some help. Probably another one of those "My wife and I both have to work all day to keep our kids in this super awesome school so we have no time to teach our children the things that really matter in life."
JeromeInJapan
This sort of thing happens a lot sad to say. I mean when we were kids we killed ants and spiders. A friend on camp killed a bird with aspirin, and another time threw fries on a busy road so birds would get hit... they did. Its what some young boys do for a adrenalin rush. I don't think it is correct as I value all life great or small (I can even kill a nusiance bug on my wall these days)
I just hope these guys learn a valuble leason and don't do such a wastefull thing ever again.
Hughgarse
getting tired of this kid of bollox in Japan.. kids do not seem to be taught much in the way of right to wrong, having a conscience etc...
timorborder
Conscious? Japan? Surely you jest?
capone
little sh*ts like this should be caught and beaten to within an inch of their miserable lives...parents too
Sarge
"parents are completely to blame"
They are not. I did some pretty nasty things when I was a kid, ( but I did a lot more good things! ) and my parents had nothing to do with it. I like Taka313's idea, except just put the names of the dirty little snotrags ( Cleo's term ) and leave the most likely hard-working parents out of it.

i wonder how they were caught?
presto345
Sadistic little jerks who would benefit from 10 years hard labor in Siberia. Adolescence is a tough period in life when many resort to petty crimes that most repent, but this is extremely vicious and a clear example needs to be set that there is no place in society for these misguided sorry creations. Beating the parents is not going to solve the problem, but they do share the responsibility.

When I was a kid I killed a tortoise by throwing it against a rock until it split open. In the woods, together with the kid next door. I wanted to know what was inside. He told his parents, and I got the blame. I locked myself in the bathroom to escape my father's wrath, but the maid promised me that if I unlocked the door I wouldn't get beaten. As soon as I opened the door I was grabbed, taken to the bedroom and caned, "in order to learn the sanctity of life". My biggest memory of that day was that adults are liars. The secondary lesson? It took me many years to realize.
GrouchyGaijin
Birds today, people tomorrow.
laconic
As a parent myself I am all for not having to take the blame for what my kids may or may not do, but surely no decent parent would allow a 13 year old to be out alone at 1 a.m.

nandakandamanda - what was the secondary lesson? Id like to hear you say that you were a sick little dude and you now realize it. I really hope you've outgrown your cruel tendencies.

You probably could have avoided punishment had you eaten it afterwards.

I like the idea of posting pix of the family and the two idiots. Japan used to have a very low crime rate because the "shame" that was brought upon the family was intense from the surrounding neighbors/community. (Of course a good economy and an equitable society helped, too).
These days, no one seems to know each other and there's no sense of community or collective guilt. This is why news like this will continue to grow.
Replacement controls for the loss of feeling "shame" by families/individuals must be implemented by the government/society if a low crime rate is to be maintained.

hahah persecutor like waste their time. it's no doubt than it's bad but why this story appear in JT?

It`s a beautiful lake. I have been there many times. I think these kids should go to a Slaughter House and watch cows and chickens being killed for human consumption.
KILLING 8 SWANS. Those birds are pretty big. They are not small birds. It must have been ALOT OF blood and feathers all over the place.
Maybe they watched to much Swenney Todd movies
I think they should visit prison and get SCARED STRAIGHT. But many boys like to kill things. I hope they understand it is wrong to take any life away. ANIMAL or HUMAN
capparapha
8 swans, the boys should get 8 beatings each
Zaphod
It is a pretty safe prediction that these kids will be back later with more serious crimes. The pattern, alas, is universal.
dany505
boys will be boys . i did some crazy stuff at that age lets not start up a lynch mob just yet...they are kids put the axes and pitch forks away they need spankings is what they need
blvtzpk
So, you went out randomly killing defenseless animals because it was fun? Yeah, a spanking will work out all those issues.
