It's not because piracy only those business is not in good condition for years.

egads man!
Maybe if the publishers licensed content in other languages and those releases were timely it wouldn't be as big of an issue. The time lag for translated content is what drives the piracy.

Lol what has Google to do with it?
If pirates don’t have access to these free manga’s, they won’t buy the original. They will just stop reading them and maybe watch netflix. What loss are they talking about? Is this Napster 1995?
Hiro
@justasking, i think they know it's impossible to stop piracy completely but that doesn't mean you stop trying. It serve more a deterrent to make sure things doesn't get too overboard. They usually target places that had become too big and famous. Sites that start to make money out of author creations that doesn't belong to them. The manga authors lives are very hard because making manga is extremely taxing on the body and most do not like it when they see piracy running rampant on their works. So going after the big pirated sites is kinda like a annual purge to keep it from completely destroying the manga industry.
Is also about pride. Some authors rather starve than to allow their work to be spread freely for others to read. I know some novel authors who really hate piracy and rather the fans not read their works if they do it illegally.

On the one hand piracy is theft and absolutely shouldn’t be allowed. On the other though, like it or not, piracy has forced innovation and competitiveness in the entertainment space. Consumers have been shown to embrace legal options that give them the same content on reasonable and convenient terms. I wonder if without piracy whether we would have the current streaming options so soon - or would we have has a much longer transition from buying/renting CD/DVDs.

Wasn’t there already One Piece about some other kind of “manga piracy” earlier this week in ‘*Entertainment’ *?
Or was it the story of some ‘half-baked’, selective prosecution of ‘bootleg anime cakes’ ?
It ALL looks like government-backed, exclusive protections of Japanese IPO’s ONLY. Should we just turn our eyes away when Japanese companies routinely appropriate creative ideas from abroad ?
egads man!
I don't see the difference between someone reading the manga online for free vs. someone standing in a BOOK-OFF and reading the manga for free.
Yubaru
Big difference, the one's at BOOK-OFF were once purchased, so the royalties were paid to the creators and publishers.
Reading them free online gives no money to those folks and THAT is the problem! Same as downloading music without paying for it!

Regarding @Yubaru’s 1:57pm on the creators’ original, one-time royalties @egads man! 1:20pm, you can read details here in this previous, through JT piece:
https://japantoday.com/category/features/famous-manga-author-pleads-with-fans-to-buy-their-comics-new-and-at-full-price -egads man!
The manga were bought and scanned by someone, so they were purchased at one point, including digital ebook versions. Unless you steal the manga outright or have access to the publishing company's data it has to be purchased at least once.
Mark
If a person legally pays for an item it's FULL price, then the buyer should have the right to do whatever he or she wishes to do with that item. If they upload it for others to enjoy then let it be. not every one has the $ to buy what is theirs to start with, hard to understand ? well that is the point.
Yubaru
This makes absolutely no sense. Why in the world would anyone have to purchase something that is their own!

Piracy - the unauthorized use or reproduction of another's work.
This is the definition of piracy, your welcome.

But wait! There's more, synonyms:
