Keep plugging away that last line but conveniently, no stats on Japanese vs Japanese crime of similar sort, and you can ITEMIZE, by Nationality….while you’re at it…since we’re SPECIFICALLY talking about a foreigner here.

Finally Japan hostage justice system need to face SOFA immunity, see who really winning?

Marine can be freed, how about that Airman that being caught last summer?

This guy was just lucky. He would be kicked out of military soon. Military worries about such a crime again there. That is a big headache for military. He is back home and would do same crime again. Most criminals did it again in the past.

SOFA is not "immunity" no matter how hard you try to state otherwise. Rightfully so, US military members are afforded legal rights that Japanese citizens do not have, and yet even with those legal safe guards, the JP's typically do not officially "arrest" a suspect, unless they have either evidence or a confession.

Apples and oranges.

"Lucky" Dont think so, if there is no evidence, or not enough evidence, and no confession, forced or otherwise, the prosecutor will not take them to court.

A foreign guy, accused of murder of his girlfriend, in mainland, not sofa, was found "guilty" of disposing a corpse, basically a misdemeanor offense, because even though ALL fingers pointed at him, as the culprit, the cops had no evidence and were never able to get a confession from the guy either.

The media is partially to blame for the cluster-fruck here, as they "convicted" this guy in the press, and now they have to run with their tails between their legs, and back track their statements.

The Naha District Public Prosecutors Office said building a case against him would be difficult based on the evidence.

Japanese way of saying, "We aint got nothing!" Because there is no way a prosecutor here is going to flat out state they have nothing, only that it's "difficult"

I wonder if they tried to collect a semen specimen from the accuser? If the guys semen was in her and she could show injury they would have evidence of a crime. Did they ask for a specimen and she refused? Or did they just not collect one?

There is evidence, but not enough. If there is a little more evidence, prosecutor would be able to convict him in court. That's why he was lucky.

I thought same thing. Even mucus, sweat, skin particles are enough evidence to prove.

How about you some of you stop trying to convict him no matter what? There wasn't enough evidence for the prosecutor and that MIGHT mean HER story doesn't add up. A lot of times they won't say why specifically to make it seem like the person did it to keep the guy looking like a criminal who got away with something. That's how things work in the cases involving American servicemen.

If there was ANY evidence to convict, the prosecutors here would take it to court. But you must keep in mind, Japanese prosecutors are loathe to take anything into court, evidence notwithstanding, without a confession.

Assuming there is any evidence of a crime is wrong as well.

He isnt lucky, he's probably not guilty. But no one will ever know the truth, except the two people involved.

The rest is pure speculation.

Nope it isnt, and there is no way of ever knowing if a rape kit was performed or not.

So, again, pure speculation.

I've heard J government pressured Okinawa prosecutors to not convict him, so dumped good evidence. It seems to me J government is concerned about US-Japan relation. Sometimes prosecutors revise/dump evidence for government. There must have been enough evidence there.

Which would you ideally prefer: acquiring all of Okinawa as a new state of the US and living in the home country without any alleged discrimination, or keeping it as a practical colony as it is now while enjoying tourist life using their taxes? Hard one!

Present Japanese prosecution that LDP government grips its personnel repeats political non-indictment about such as most of ruling party slush-fundraising politicians or parts of police bureaucrat, it more expands distrust among citizen against prosecution.

No way jose, this isn't a crime in todays US defence department. His daddy owns him Hegseth Junior.
