Yamaguchi Prefectural Police have arrested a 29-year-old U.S. Marine stationed at the Marine Corps Air Station in Iwakuni for allegedly stealing a car from the side of a road on Sunday.

According to the warrant, the suspect, who is a corporal, stole the passenger car while it was parked on a road at at around 6 a.m. on Sunday, Kyodo News reported. The car’s owner, a woman in her 50s, had left her car's engine running and discovered it gone upon returning 10 minutes later. She immediately called 110.

Ten minutes later police officers spotted a car with the same color and make of the stolen vehicle in the parking lot of a nearby convenience store.

The Marine was inside the car. Police said a high level of alcohol was detected in the suspect during a breathalyzer test, which surpassed the blood-alcohol limit for driving.

Police said the suspect has denied stealing the car.

Not a good look for the US.

Just tell them you were drunk and don’t remember, case closed

Send back all those punks to US...

According to the Pentagon, 77% of young Americans old enough to enlist are unfit for military service. Most of these cannot pass the ASVAB test, the rest are physically unqualified, or have arrest records. America’s public schools are failing to meet minimal education standards, and few schools today have PE five days per week, which used to be standard.

The Armed Forces have had to grant large numbers of waivers to unqualified people to fill vacancies, and the results have not been good.

There should be a curfew. Return to base by 10pm. If he was drunk and stole a car, what might happen if he found a schoolgirl or young women drunk, like what had happened before in Okinawa.

Let's not place all of the blame on the Marine. She left her car running for 10+ minutes, something most of us would never do. Both parties are equally at fault.

nothing will happen to him.as occuppying force he is out of japanese legal system.

untouchable.

Couldn't be more wrong...

Under the SOFA, he'll remain in Japanese Police custody at a Japanese detention facility until his trial...which will be in a Japanese court, unless the Prosecutor declines to indict - highly doubtful...

And if he's convicted and given any prison time, he'll go to the GOJ confinement facility in Yokosuka (city, not base) to serve his sentence...

Do a little studying before posting...

Mate it common practice. I have pull up at a Maxie car park one time the car beside me car was running. I received a call and spoke for 20 minutes where after I when to do my shopping when I return 45 minutes the car was still running. That over a hour. I realised the owner must got held up or something so turn it off. As I did this the owner returned and thank me as explain he was only was planing to be 10 minutes but got held up. I replied I figured that an no worries. But it is common. I do it also but only in winter.

I live in Hiroshima City. This is just ONE incident of many! They come in on Friday and get drunk and fight and cause trouble. This is just a case that got caught by the press.

Don’t Japanese people turn off car engines whilst leaving their cars?

The woman should be done too for a plethora of offenses

No, no, it surely wasn’t me, I am a corporal and never would do such. She filled me up, drove me here to this CS when I fell asleep and then walked away some meters to call police and put it on me. I have no remembrance of anything. lol

People who drink to the point of not having the slightest idea of what they are even doing: total losers

No one has ever convinced me to hold a different opinion on these kind of people.

firstly, it is very common in Japan because in most places there are no drunken Marines running around stealing cars and driving while so drunk they can’t remember. I often do it, same as around 30% of customers at my local convenience store.

second, do you believe it is ok to steal other peoples property knowing it doesn’t belong to you?

Police sais the suspect has denied setaling the car.

What the heck????

Guy sounds like a loser and a total dropkick. 29 and just a lowly corporal lol.

Likely has an IQ of around 85.

“77% of young Americans old enough to enlist are unfit for military service.”

So what? More than 77% of them don’t and won’t enlist anyway.

“Most of these cannot pass the ASVAB test.”

That says more about the stringent standards of enlistment rather than the quality of current troops. This guy is a Marine. I’d like see how you would perform in Marine boot camp.

If the woman left her engine running for 10 minutes, she deserves to have her car taken away.

In many areas of Japan it is usual to leave the front door unlocked.

I guess such people deserve to have their place robbed?

It wasn't smart on her part to leave her car with the motor running. Dumb.

It's court martial time for this Gyrene. Two charges at least. He's an E4, and may lose two chevrons over this.

maybe may relocate him to Guam or so,thats all.

Certainly a relocation to another command - as an E2 or even lower paygrade as an E1. That is going to SUCK.
