Univ student arrested after trying to blackmail two 11-year-old girls

A 20-year-old man was arrested for attempted extortion earlier this week after he allegedly tried to make two elementary school girls pay him 50,000 yen each, police said Friday.

Police said Ryunosuke Arima, a second-year student at Bunkyo University, approached the two 11-year-old girls on Aug 26 outside a Taito Ward bookstore, after he put a 1,000 yen bill on top of some books in the store. One of the girls had picked the bill up and told Arima that they were going to hand it in at a police station. Arima told them the money was his, and that if they didn’t want to get in trouble with the police, they should pay him 50,000 yen each.

Arima then tried to persuade the girls to give him some money over the next hour, but fled without success after the girls started crying. He was arrested on Sept 2, based on descriptions of his appearance. He has admitted to the allegations, saying he wanted to pull a prank on some girls.

Police are investigating if Arima was involved in two other incidents in the bookstore last month, in which two young girls were groped.

Guys like this should be publicly caned.

50,000 JPY is over US$500. Do all 11 year olds carry this amount of cash with them?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Well, He's just stuffed up the rest of his life, as this will go on his record and he won't be able to find a decent job anywhere. Is that punishment enough?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Haha, what a criminal genius.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wow, what was he studying? Money making schemes?

Trying to extort $500 from two 11 year old girls.

Guys like this should be publicly caned.

I second that.

There's a special place in hell for scum like this.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

this is the most ridiculous thing I've heard in a while. what a moron.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Love it how he bailed when they started crying. Who was the real wimp here?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This is much worse than stealing money from old people. He will definitely be in the hall of shame

...but fled without success after...

does that mean he tried to run away, but couldn't?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

but fled without success after the girls started crying.

Maybe he began to run away but tripped and fell.

This predator should be hit with as many charges and imprisoned for a very long time, for the good of this gentile society, Or, promote him into the ranks of the Yak leadership. Yaks could use his skills.

What a coward-cheap-pervert, the guy must have been needing to convince himself that he`s a real man starting to assault 11 years old girls.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Here is an excellent reason why capital punishment should be reinstated.

A university student. When I was at college, students got arrested for drunken idiocy and maybe drug offences. I can't recall anyone ever trying to blackmail school kids. This guy is an imbecile.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

why is it the japanese never pick on somebody their own size ? coward culture

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What a maroon, as Bugs Bunny would say. What idiot could possibly think two 11-year-olds were going to be able to come up with 50k? Give him an extra year in the cooler for being extra stupid.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Proof that any idiot can get into uni now. I know plenty of people here in Japan doing MAs and PhDs, who should not be on the course. When I did my MA, there were plenty of people who shouldn't have been on that course too. If Mommy and daddy have got the cash, then Jr. can go to college.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I think anybody in the states, except maybe a three year old, would have said, "go ahead call the cops."

You certainly can't blame the girls here, but add this college punk into the equation, and it's just more proof of a country in total lack of common-sense...

From 105 lbs socking wet geeks, who choose to walk right behind a group of drunken construct workers at 3am in the morning, to people challenging other people with baseball bats to hit them.... (Yes... these did happen... one died and the other will probably have permanent brain damage)

I'm not even sure if this would be considered a crime in most "Civilized" western countries... Probably not blackmail, because there are certain statues which must be met, probably harassment or something along the lines as a menace.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

His parents must be very very proud their son is a hardworking boy in uni. or is it shame..?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

how did he manage to detain them for an hour without them calling for help? stupid girls.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What statues have to be met?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Mocheake - try this scenario: if can't pay then you will have to earn it. mindovermatter - try to focus

Once a perv is always a perv.

First, the 20 yr Ryunosuke Arima is an idiot. Second, the girls, though very young but would have stood their ground and realised that they had no case to answer. Arima would have given up on them and walk away in shame.

in which two young girls were groped.

I was waiting for this, and they snuck it in right at the end.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What an idiot.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It wasn't attempted extortion it was harassment. Ryunosuke kun would need a reasonable plan and a viable victim to raise himself to the level of an extortionist.

Based on the two incidents it is clear he needs jail time and counseling. Any chance of at least having him 86'd from that particular bookstore?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What an idiot, its such a stupid scam. Did he see it on Mchales Navy? (oops showing my age). They must be doing a hell of a job teaching in uni. New job selection criterias should be "Must not have been to university" based on this story.

500 kickings of the big black boot. Sentence to be carried out asap.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I would say they should let the father's of the girls have a few moments alone with this "S&$# for brains" uni student and consider the matter settled with no questions asked. But, this is Japan and justice is only a word.

He was arrested based on his description? I would love more details on that! Obviously he is not an average height average build straight black hair and black-eyeed guy.

Obviously also not an economics undergrad. What kind of moron hits on a child for $500???!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Thank the gods, these young girls were not physically hurt by this idiot! We must protect our children from these fools.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Asking 500$ from 11 years old. At that age if I had a 5$ I was a happy child.

Moron doesn't even begin to discribe how I feel about this guy...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Lol The above comments are hilarious. This guy is a simpleton... First of all the girls are 11. They're still kids for cryin' out loud? Its like asking a 5 year old to give you 150,000,000 yen. I don't agree with a public caning, but forcing him to wear a sign of what he did for a few long months in public should sink it into his feeble mind that he's a total git.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Scumbag!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I find nothing "surprising" anymore. Its a very obvious "sign of the times". People in this country, especially younger people who don't have much experience with society, or had any chance to develop proper hobbies (lack of space, money and time) become dimwits. I'm afraid there are close to a million or more such young people these days. Japan has some serious house to tend to make the "beautiful Japan" concept imagined by loose bowels.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The guy is probably so detached from reality that he believed these 11 year old girls would actually be able to come up with the money. To the point where they started crying? Man... Sad, sad loser.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I guess he must've failed Ethics while at university.

Arima then tried to persuade the girls to give him some money over the next hour, but fled without success after the girls started crying. He was arrested on Sept 2, based on descriptions of his appearance. He has admitted to the allegations, saying he wanted to pull a prank on some girls.

What are creep! This is the lowest of low, this really boils my blood to hear this idiot tried to do this, this guy needs some serious jail time, I hope they throw everything they have at him. He made the girls cry, what a scumbag.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

..in which two young girls were groped. < saying he wanted to pull a prank on some girls<

So for "Junior" 20 year-old Japanboy, a "prank" comes down to sexula molestation of 11 year-old minor girls? Oh, how funny. Ha, ha. What a fine prank! Great sense of humor.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I am surprised it makes the news. It happens all the time elsewhere, but here, THAT has to put published?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The glimmer of hope for Japan comes from the two 11 year olds. They were actually going to bring the money to the authorities. In any other country I might disregard this as a farce, but in Japan... perhaps they really were going to do it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I guess he must've failed Ethics while at university.

They have ethics classes in Japan?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Something about this story doesn't make any sense to me. So he was just standing around outside waiting for them to come out and then questioned them about the money? And he did this for an hour-- no one was around at the time? It just seems very weird. I'm glad the girls were unhurt however.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

At least he didn't ask them for some lascivious favors as collateral, right?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Might as well chime in. If you understand the scam, you can see that it is pretty sick. At every stage, it is designed to suck the girls in deeper and play off their fears that they have done something wrong. The process that the student used sets it all in motion, and it does not end with money. It ends with them giving him whatever he wants, or him killing them.

The student was not stupid. If things had clicked correctly, he would have had two little slaves. He has to be put away. Very scary guy. This is not a prank. This was a plan.
