Or is it society who is insane? For millennia women and girls filled very different roles than today, and evolved as a result, but today they are expected to at least start life as one of the boys and consider higher education and a professional career. Then probably toss all that in the dumpster for life as a mother and housewife. Many girls cannot handle the ridiculousness of the modern scenario. This girl might have been much the same. Good luck with your daughter. Consider that the contrived path that was invented by modern feminists might not be for her at all.

Before everyone jumps to conclusions.
It is tragic. But I have a 17 year old daughter who is being insane in her daily behaviour.
Stayed in a relatives, stole money.
Maybe grandpa popped. Maybe grandpa was attacked.
Just tragic.
I hope my road doesn't go that way

Strange twist the father did most of the talking, the grandfather is taking the wrap for the father. He knows he is old and his life is pretty much done at 86 years old. The daughter moved away from the parents who may have quarreled a lot, but I think the father was abusive. It seems the falling down the stairs trick doesn't work, because if the grandfather stabbed her he would have admitted it or perhaps fled after doing so. The girl said she moved from her parents because they often quarreled. The aggressor appears to be the father. I would think the father stabbed his daughter because the police did not reveal whether Tomizawa admitted to or denied the murder charge. The father isn't sure he wants to own up to something he did not do. The girl lived with the grandfather for two months, if the grandfather was bad as the parents, I am sure she would have took the high road to the streets to get away from more abuse.

Wow. Very strange. All manner of speculation spun out of thin air. Perusing other articles indicates the Grandfather was not suffering from dementia and was notably a charming fellow. The Father was telephoned by the grandparent and traveled to the residence and found his daughter on the floor at the foot of the stairs. He contacted emergency services claiming his daughter had fainted. She was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. She had numerous stab wounds to her upper body.

Good Lord. I lived with my grandparents for a time. Nowhere do they exist to just be a mouth to feed. How much do posters get out and actually meet people? This is far from a "Japanese" thing"! Its often done all over the world!
As for the commonality of a house containing grandparents, parents, kids and even great grandparents, just look at the prices of rents and real estate for an explanation as well as general crowding in Japan. This is half the United States crammed into a space the size of Montana but also 80 percent or more steep mountain. There is just nowhere to go, or, throw all your money down a bottomless pit of rent hell.

Can you imagine your daughter getting killed by your own father?
No. This is tragic if true. We don't know for sure if the grandfather or someone else did the stabbing.

I get the feeling, the father killed the girl and dumped the blame on to the grandfather. Seems like the parents will have a lot more quarrel about now............or nothing at all?
Something stinks here.
Lock them all up.

86 years old and living with a 16-year old female?
This sure sounds very shady to say the least.
Uh, it was his grand daughter.
Where on earth are you coming from with this?
sir_bentley28
There is a lot missing here. So the way it is written now, "apparently" it makes no sense.

Another strange story. What was grandpa's motive for killing her?
As for the living arrangement, I've had Japanese students who came from similar situations (grandchildren living with grandparents). Maybe it has something to do with Japan's extended family and agricultural background, which is probably being tested in this day and age. That might have something to do with it.

@Pam, it didn’t say she was quarreling with the parents, only that that were. Maybe she left because she got tired of their fighting.

Dysfunctional family indeed! Put the old man in the can forever!

From another source, it said the father arrived at the house before phoning the police. If he was still at his house, why didn’t he call for an ambulance rather than the police. Not totally convinced he doesn’t have some involvement.

Why is everyone assuming that the granddaughter is totally innocent in this whole incident? Or that the grandfather has dementia? She left home because she was arguing with her parents. Was she being rebellious with them? Was she doing drugs? Was she hanging out with the wrong people? This article does not tell the whole story.

Can you imagine your daughter getting killed by your own father?

At 86 yrs there is around a 40-80% chance of dementia. My partners mother is 85 and stage 3.5/4 dementia. When she is angry she is very strong and violent.
sad story. Not enough info. She might of even tried suicide and fell. Parent situation etc.

Who knows?
With so little information, I wonder why this is published?

The father says she fell down and was unresponsive...he didn’t notice the multiple stab wounds?
mtuffizi
may be her dad accidentally killed her and the grandfather willing to take the blame since he is 86. never know.

You make it sound like there are a significant amount of details to work with, which was the first thing Toshiro said there wasn't.
All Toshiro did was lay a probable foundation for this murder. The walls and roof of this story could come in a thousand designs and are not hard to figure. But part of it entails the girl being uncooperative as a normal teenager, but as soon as that's said, the charge of "victim blaming" comes up. It will probably hang around even if I say being of his generation he was maybe expecting his teenage grand-daughter to keep the house spic and span and serve him sake on her knees while wearing a kimono.
nakanoguy01
normal people don't just kill others when they lose their patience. you make it sound like it's a perfectly natural thing to do and that it's the girl's fault. smgfh.

Looks like there's a lot of problems in this family. Nothing different than most but maybe something happened to put the grandfather over the edge. Poor kid gets her life taken at sixteen and by her own grandparent.
Do the hustle
Another dysfunctional family

As noted, there is a hell of a lot of information missing from this story.
Poor girl in only, so far from the info here, that she was killed by her grandfather!
Mark
Poor girl, she thought she could find peace and calm at the grandparent home, she was wrong. I blame the parents first for involving her with their miserable life style that caused her to flee.

86 years old man... pushing a 16 years girl... i'd like to see it.

There's a lot of missing information. I'll suspend my judgement but I'll just assume that the grandpa probably lost his patience for taking care of his grand daughter.
