Condolences to their families. Let's hope the legal process concludes quickly, and justice is done.

Sensei - I 2nd your comment. Also I saw the photos of these people on the news this morning. I really wish the media would not do this as their families have suffered enough and now may have to endure some form of stigmatization as a result of how these crimes started in the first place.

Hopefully his sentencing will be swift. Prayers to the victims families.

Hopefully, this man will be studied and perhaps psychiatrists will learn what can make a person commit such an horrific act against fellow human beings. A death penalty is not the answer.
papigiulio
I would agree. Eye for an eye, BUT, NINE people!!!!!! What he did was horrible so he deserves to suffer and not an easy way out.
gogogo
RIP, so young.

do we really need a psychiatrist to tell us that he's a whacko bird? and by knowing how or why he became a whacko bird, how would that prevent this type of crime from happening again? it can't and won't, so let's not kid ourselves into believing that there's some solution to serial killers.
society would be a much better place if he were in it. hang him and rid the world of this psychopath.

last month?? bit slow on the identification process there?

dont give your kids smart phones. Its more dangerous than knowing where your kids are by communication, planning and agreeing on times to come home and have the number of their friends parents.

sheesh. can you imagine having that gruesome job?? Hats of to them for their hard work.

Alternatively:
"Do we really need a meteorologist to tell us how the hurricane formed? How will that prevent future hurricanes?"
"Do we really need a geologist to tell us how the earthquake happened? Let's not kid ourselves into think earthquakes can be stopped."
"Do we really need an engineer to tell us how the building collapsed? Sometimes buildings just fall down. You can't stop it."
"Do we really need an astrophysicist to tell us how the meteor wiped out almost all life on Earth? Sometimes mass extinctions just happen."
It sounds silly when you change the context, doesn't it. That's because there's never a good reason to not study a tragedy. Good humans choose not to be ignorant, evwn if they can't understand everything. Good humans choose to make life better, even if they can't make it perfect.
Toasted Heretic
Perpetrators of such unspeakable horrors mirror the dark soul of humanity. It's not surprising some would rather remain ignorant of the causes that lead to such debauchery.
But then, we do not learn. We do not have a framework in place to understand and ultimately prevent these dark tragedies.
An execution solves nothing. It's just short term gratification.
Nessie
How can the story say that immediately after identifying multiple victims?
WilliB
As for the idea that "studying" him would stop future psychopaths, that simply is not so. A small portion of the population is always insane and/or criminal.
nandakandamanda
Not so fast there!
The guy is apparently refusing to sign the written confession now. He keeps changing his mind, and the prosecutors have nothing concrete yet to tie him directly to any of the killings. None of the bones or other matter points to cause of death. All that the police can charge him with is the original one when they arrested him, ie unlawful abandoning (a) body/bodies.
Strangerland
The cops are hardly lazy, and maybe no one told you that life isn’t a tv show in which murders take 43 minutes plus commercial time to solve.
pacint
And he also found the Identities of the other 8 Victims I guess.
Get real.
albaleo
I understand what you're saying, but there is perhaps good reason to publish the identities of the victims. Imagine a neighbor or acquaintance of one of the families not knowing what had happened. It could lead to other painful situations.

@Strangerman... 9 missing over two months please...hardly what you call 43mins

Considering the fact that the bodies were found at the very end of last month and today is the 10th, along with the condition of the remains, I’d say that complete identification in less than two weeks was maybe even quick.
And yes, there were 9 people missing over two months but they were only a small fraction of the 80,000 plus people for whom missing person reports are filed every year in Japan. (That’s roughly 7,000 every month.) They were also from various locales with no immediate reason to think their cases were connected. Sure, it would have been great if this guy could have been stopped before even one person died. But considering some serial killers go on for years and even decades before being stopped by arrest or their own death, two months seems even short.

“the victims included Kureha Ishihara, ...... Natsumi Kubo and Akari Suda. Also killed were Hinako Sarashina, ..... and Hitomi Fujima, ..... and Mizuki Miura, Shogo Nishinaka and Kazumi Maruyama.
The police on Monday identified one victim as Aiko Tamura, 23, from the Tokyo suburb of Hachioji, the only victim identified by name so far.”
Yet another example of how, when modifying stories, it’s important to make sure the different parts agree.

What bugs me is how he killed the boyfriend too. The boyfriend surely didn’t want to be killed too did he? Wasn’t there some kind of fight?
Some dude has lured away my girlfriend, I go to his place, and he tries to kill me... he is gonna be in for a serious fight I can promise you that much. And none of his neighbors noticed this fight? Something strange about that.
