What will happen to Abenomics? Who will carry that in the future?

I thought the word was that there was no political motive, that it was just a personal grudge. Which is it?
Asiaman7
I wonder whether police are crafting the action as a personal grudge to dissuade copycats who might see violence as a justifiable expression of their political dissatisfaction.
plasticmonkey
That is possible.

Probably. Incidentally, I hope that the defendant's rights are being protected, and that he has a lawyer present during any questioning. Judging by Japan's abysmal human rights record (with regards to it's legal system and rule of law) maybe the UN should monitor.

And if it’s bad for the country?

…
Lawyers are not permitted to be present in Japan during questioning of a suspect.

It is an act of absolutely unforgivable political terrorism
NorwegianboyEE
There is definitelt some form of PR control behind the scenes just as there always is in Japan during such matters.
To what end or goal i am not sure yet, but definitely will be interesting to follow.
The messages from the Japanese police already gave away these signals to me.

Why is the media avoiding the word assassination? Is it too shocking to admit? A sad day for Japan.
sakurasuki
Because media in Japan try to keep image Japan is a safe country, foreign news outlet use that word for this incident.
Even they try to avoid to announce his death, just keep saying that he was in critical condition.

That's what Yamagami "says."

Political terrorism, a shrill speculative wild assumption, the conjectural supposition that the shooter motivation was an assault on the principals of Freedom of speech is deliberately baiting public anxiety.
Michael Machida
This was an assassination. Shocking that this happen in Japan.
stormcrow
A huge loss for a country of very few statesmen of Abe’s caliber. He will be missed.
RIP

"It is a serious challenge to Japan's democracy. It is unforgivable"
Until there is detailed criminal psychology/forensic psychology analysis/reports undertaken then presented to the judiciary, there is no tangible evidence into the motivations of the alleged shooters intentions.
There should be reporting restrictions to prevent trial by media by media/sub judice.

Saddened by this news. He's one of the world's best leaders. My heart goes out to the Japanese people.

Prepare for more loons with homemade guns copying this nut…

Unforgivable political? What politics? Guy was lone wolf all the way.
Just looks like he had nothing to lose. Went out with a bang. Simple.
Just like that Osaka clinic killer guy and that animation studio terrorist guy.
Another lone wolf shooter with mental issues and a wooden double barrel, duct tape sawed off..

I join my fellow Indians to pay tribute to the great man, Mr Abe, whom we deeply admire and respect. He will continue to live in our hearts. May his soul rest in peace.
