Seems to me like they RECEIVED all that they asked for as well.

Is not that the thing that shows their connection to the government?

The article is read like they did all the wrong for obtaining these benefits falsely, but whos handing them out and who said they can have it?

Oh, you won't get any answers to your burning questions. These individuals belong to a cult. And as all cults go, everything is kept close to the vest. Hence why this couple is willing to fall on the sword for the good ol kaigi.

Moritomo Gakuen was found to have acquired the... plot in June last year for... roughly 14 percent of its appraised value

Oh dear. Bye, bye Abe...

Small fish. Where is the big fish?

The investigation should go to Abe and his wife too. If not, Japan's justice system will be questioned.

@Schopen: In horde to. have Abe on trial,, someone has to sue him. Are you giggling. to sue him or somebody else come?

The big fish cover their tracks pretty well, they have had decades of practice. Japan is not Europe or America, which have independent law enforcement agencies, and a free press. Here the amakudari system greatly reduces both, so the domestic news seldom reports about political or corporate misdeeds, and law enforcement seldom investigates them.

One of the few reasons this story became so big is that it happened in Western Japan, which is not a stronghold of the LDP. Had this school and it's operators been located in Tokyo, no scandal would have ever been uncovered.

Everybody knows who is behind the arrest, Japan justice at its worse.

Is this just a cover up of Abe's involvement in the deal? To swift the headlight from Abe's involvment and into what seems like an exploitation of state subsidies from Moritomo Gakuen? Maybe Abe told Yasunori Kagoike to throw in the towel to clear any doubts of Abe's responsibility? This matter will definitely not end with this!

Sangetsu - West Japan IS a stronghold of the LDP, take a look at this map. Abe himself is from Yamaguchi.

I get the impression that Tokyo is less reactionary and more progressive, in the same way that London and other large cities tend to be. I agree with all the stuff in the first paragraph though.

So when is Abe going to be arrested?

The nail that sticks out gets hammered/and his wife.

The Kagoikes are like carp on the government's chopping board ready to be deboned for defying and embarrassing those who dwell above the clouds. Big fish everywhere, not just in Japan, swim smoothly away from the crime scene leaving the bones of little fish in their wake. In the UK judges have ruled that Bigfish Blair cannot be charged with conspiracy to wage a war of aggression against Iraq (he was never a member of Hitler's Nazi Party).

The photo shows Kagoike's house being raided on Monday, about 4 months after the initial complaint was made. Why didn't they raid his house then, instead of allowing him time to destroy evidence? I'm sure these "raids" are just for show and the boxes are either empty, or contain things like toaster manuals etc.

In other words, there are lawful ways in which to secure state subsidies worth more than about 56 million yen.

The government is 1.05 quadrillion yen in debt, and we taxpayers are still paying subsidies to ANYONE?

This country can't afford forever to let some people have a free ride on the backs of the rest of us.

Are they going to keep silent and go to jail for Abe too? Or spill it for a lighter sentence? I wonder

The moral of the story: it's better to give than to receive.

Scrote,

"The photo shows Kagoike's house being raided on Monday, about 4 months after the initial complaint was made. Why didn't they raid his house then, instead of allowing him time to destroy "

As the article notes, previous raids were conducted in June.

That said, there's a lot of possible charges, big and small, and maybe under different jurisdictions. For instance the issue of Junko claiming to be working full time at one school and getting some kind of subsidy based on that, when she was actually fulfilling roles at more than one school. Small potatoes maybe compared to the state land sale issue, but fraud nevertheless. Not sure how things are handled, if for instance, evidence collected in a raid pertains to more than one charge under different jurisdictions.

Well if you want to see your tax dollars/yen at work, here it is folks. Multiply this by a couple hundred thousand and then you can see whe you can't get ahead. Fraud and corruption.
