Glad she's out of it, regardless of where the blame lies for incompetency at too many levels to mention here.

"Police officers broke the door's lock with special tools and stormed into the room after confirming the man had fallen asleep."

"Inept" J-Police storms the room; victim is alive and so is the abductor.

No police officer is injuried.

More advanced police in even more advanced and beautiful societies storm the room, hostage and abductor die(often).

A police officer may count amongst the casualties too.

Japan is simply too backwards, they say.

I would be interested to know more about this man so we can avoid this event in the future. What was his motive? What is his background?

Was the food the police provided mixed with sleeping pills does? probably. great maneuver, glad the lady was safe too.

stormed into the room after confirming the man had fallen asleep.

How the hell do you "storm" into a room hardly big enough to stand up in? There is a desk, and reclining chair, at the minimum, and two people in that size room for over 30 hours.... right.

And after confirming he was asleep.... must be some Japanese police ninja technique, more likely they stuck a camera under the door!

Must have been pretty damn rank in their too!

I am glad the young female is ok!

Glad she was not harmed and it is now over.

I would imagine the young lady's parents or significant other would have been extremely worried about her being confined with a guy like that. Hope she recovers, but it will likely leave mental scars.

I sometimes use Internet cafes if I miss the last train. You would not believe the level of weird Japanese males you see in them. "Socially retarded" doesn't come even close.

@peeping tom

It was a good result in the end, nobody hurt, but how would you know what Police in other jurisdictions would do? Each situation is different and I’m sure you’ll find the focus is on preserving life where possible not taking it.

It must have been a terrible ordeal for the young women. Glad she’s out of it unharmed. Confined in a small space for more than a day, did they have access to a bathroom?

32 hours without using a toilet is impossible for me.

Was this guy an awkward geek? An incel? Police need to get to the bottom of it so in case there is a next time they'll know better. Glad that woman is alright now but this trauma will probably scar her mentally.

@Peeping_Tom

In my youth as a paramedic, I was on standby on several occasions during hostage situations ( most being domestic situations).

In those days these standoffs could last days.

What I hear from former colleagues still working in emergency services is that today the police are often under extreme pressure to end the situation quickly.

Many in the emergency services blame the 24/7 news and live streaming. The constant "what are the police doing?" " Why are they waiting" " what are they waiting for" etc...by 24 hour new pundits and online instant posting, puts pressure on the political leaders who then lean on the police to "end stings quickly".

So the mentality of fast and force has now become the norm.

3 square meter room?? ive been in bigger shower cubicles! and two people being stuck in there for that amout of time, jeees, that must have been uncomfortable for both of them, I just hope one of them didnt have a bad case of wind/gas.( you never know what can happen when your nervous) I would love to know this guys thought or motive, is some sort of chikan fetish? it looks it looks like he will be moving to a slightly larger confined space soon, although it will have several other men with him.

The internet cafes that I have used, you are required to be a member (with membership card) and first timers must register with ID to become a member.

"how would you know what Police in other jurisdictions would do?"

No one knows with absolute certainty.

However, there are "things" such as:

a) Television

b) Newspapers (including this one)

c) Various social media forums

d) Word of mouth

All those readily report on cases fitting my scenario above,

Everyone knows it, including you.

Glad she is out safely and no one hurt. The rest is speculation.

I think that is called "creative writing".

Eeek... I try not to think about that aspect of the story.
